Its what's turned me off the MCU, its too formulaic now and relies on cheap jokes, like its too scared to take itself seriously.

But I digress; the original LOTR trilogy did have some pandering joke moments too. The whole 'Mission, quest thingy, thing' line or the 'central nervous system' line, some of those out of place jokes that took you out of the moment, but at least with that's it wasnt played out as much. But I do hope they avoid those pandering lines from the original trilogy.

Also my favourite poster cos dorfs

Those sword designs, just, no. And is that meant to be Narsil? I know you don't want it to look like the movie version, but all those unnecessary elaborate bits just don't work outside of WoW.

I know nothing about this series.

Can anyone explain if there's any creative crossover with the Peter Jackson series of LOTR and Hobbit? In terms of creative continuity, artists, set design, writers, etc.

Shouldn't be. The series should pretty much only cover time before the sword gets broken. Its not allowed to touch anything shown in the Peter Jackson movies so showing when it gets broken is also off limits.

Bit odd they'd show a broken sword then. There aren't any others in the lore so it's logical people would assume that is what it is.

Well there is Anglachel crafted by the the Dark Elf Eöl, later reforged into Gurthang for Turin, which ended up broken and buried along with its last owner. This is all First Age stuff, so would they have some character retrieve it much later?

Not to mention the grip on that handle must be pretty atrocious...

The "comic relief" in the lotr movies was fine though. I'm talking about scenes like in Infinity War where they explain how big a threat Thanos is and literally half a second later they talk about Ben N Jerries icecream flavours. Or how they talk about plans to fight Thanos then Star Lord comes up with a dance off idea. It worked fine in GotG, but it felt so out of place in IW which was otherwise an amazing movie.

One thing I like about the posters is completely opposite to how I felt about Wheel of Time when the costume shots were revealed. Because these posters in these shots look worn, dirty and used, nothing looks clean... except for three images that literally look like they are maybe purposefully clean. but everything has a story and its fascinating. Where as with Wheel of Time all the clothes looks too clean to me, everyone looks too sharp.

From a costume atheistic this show already looks good. Still nervous about the end result but I am feeling slightly more optimistic.

Actually they have said multiple times they want it to feel more apart of the Peter Jackson trilogy aesthetic. And it certainly shows here. I see alot of people moaning that it doesn't look like LotR movies, that no one wears those in the movies, and okay but then again its not set in the same time and place as the movies..

Now we knows its going to take liberties as far as Tolkien canon goes because its an original story set and based around a certain time in Middle -Earth's history (no spoilers), thats my big concern although I am not a huge Tokien nerd, I read the books back in the 90's and watched the movies. But outside of the Hobbit, and the LotR trilogy and The Silmarillion I am not a big in depth lore nerd of the universe, but I do watch alot of lore videos about in on youtube. Broken Sword and Nerd of the Rings.

Also I am thankful I am not on twitter right now as a friend literally messaged me to say 'if you wanna keep sane don't go to the Lord of the Rings twitter feed'. I was like 'dude I haven't been on t witter for 4 years' :P

but I can already guess what certain twitter users are angry at...

All I got to say is please don't turn LotR into another Star Wars fandom... I just can't... I aint gonna be caught in the middle of two bitchy sides of the argument again.

Twitter is a cess pool echo chamber.

The only mistake people make is giving any complaints on there any legitimacy in first place.

You have a point. I mean I got caught up in the Ghostbusters and the star Wars stuff, and I am just so tired of that shit it pushed me out of social media. and while I wasnt a huge fan of the latest ghostbusters movie, (it was okay) it felt good to no longer hear those angry voices like back when I was on twitter.

But are they actually working with Weta Workshop? If not, it won't be as good.

I think I read somewhere that they did. Don't remember where though

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Moves From New Zealand to the U.K. The move to the U.K. means that for the first time in over 20 years, a modern adaptation of Tolkien’s work won’t be filmed in New Zealand. Peter Jackson filmed the original Lord of the Rings trilogy filmed in his native country, as well as The Hobbit trilogy. During this time, New Zealand’s film industry grew and expanded, with post-production and digital effects company Weta Digital and props maker Weta Workshop winning multiple Oscars. The country also saw a massive influx of tourism money thanks to fans from across the globe flocking to the island nation. With its sweeping vistas and stunning geography, New Zealand is practically its own character in the sprawling fantasy series.
