You cant accept simple facts that the tv series cant follow the lore or follow the story the same way, the movies also done its own thing completely doing things against the lore, the show is written very well and its one of the most popular tv series out atm so your opinions on it dont change the facts that the show is doing pretty good better than many shows out currently.

The facts is that the movie could not, and it was better written, the show is awfully written, terrible acted and directed, hell, even edited the show is bad
The plot is dumb and doesn't make sense, the characters look and act stupid, the dialogue is asinine, Sauron master manipulator relly on his victims being retarded and they just go along with it. and they repurpose and rip off the movie because they are hacks.
It is not, even the penguim had more people watching the first episode. The show also didn't retain more than 60% of its audience from season 1 and lost half of its viwers from season premieres.and its one of the most popular tv series out atm so your opinions on it dont change the facts that the show is doing pretty good better than many shows out currently.
Show is a massive failure, in any metric and bad in every measurement
Some of you are acting like this show is as bad or worse than the Last Jedi or Season 8 of GoT. It may not be perfect but jesus. Blinded by hate watching that is for sure.
Yeah mate, only me, there is no one else in the world that would consider this as worse
Too bad, if you actually followed this thread you would see im not discussing season 2 episodes, not like in eason 1, i just talked about the phrase the show stole from the movies because someone told meSee you on Friday to discuss the latest episode.
I would love to rip the show a new butthole like in season 1, but its just way worse for me to watch it.

That sounds great! So you won't need to respond to this comment or anything else I say about the show.
I mean since I do actually follow your comments I know you have shitty taste and talk down on anyone who doesn't like what you like, it would be be great to have a break from you here.
Also, where I come from, they call people like you a bully. People don't put up with bullies these days.
Still looking forward to Friday to comment on the show.

you are the one to talk about shit taste liking rings of powerI mean since I do actually follow your comments I know you have shitty taste
Actually funny
I watched about 25 minutes of Episode 1 Season 1 and decided this show wasn't going to be for me, despite my love of Tolkien's work.
But fuck, I haven't spent two years bitching about it after realizing that. Just move along and find something you do like.
He/Him
That's a healthy way to do it. If you manage to get past the "Oooh it has to be lore accurate even if it's based on a few pages" stuff, Season 2 really stepped up the game. Annatar and Celebrimbor is fantastic, Tom Bombadil is great (but the Rhun/Hobbit storyline is a bit lackluster as of now) and the show is really finding it's footing. New Adar actor is actually killing it, even if I prefered the more demented version of Season 1.
Watch it as a "generic fantasy series" loosely based on Tolkien and you'll soon realize there's a lot more depth and "Tolkien" in it than it first seems.
With that said, Season 2 still suffers from the same odd cliche writing season 1 had, but it was also written and finished to start filming before Season 1 aired. Guessing we'll see an ever bigger step up in Season 3.
My biggest gripe so far is how long it stretches some storylines, just because they have to meet this 8-episodes format. Not saying I dislike storytelling without action, but this season has been really long so far, with at least 1 or 2 episodes that were just pointless and could have easily been removed or stitched to the ones before/after.
I'm not sure to understand why we still have to suffer through Nori/Popi's storyline, even more now that they've introduced a fucking love story between not-Sam and the other hobbit, did this serie really need that ?
Because honestly that's a shame, as you said there are some arcs which are interesting to follow-up (Annatar/Celebrimbor and Dwarves for me), but they're always being cut in the middle or put aside to make room for asinine stuff occurring in other backstories.
Speaking of which, I feel like Arondir is heavily underused in S02. This is really a char I couldn't care less about initially, but I finally enjoyed him in S01. Then in S02, most of his screen time has been pretty useless - the Ents story popped in and out very quickly, even Elendil somehow disappeared (again), and in E06 he made it into the introduction, killing 2 Orcs and then ??? vanished
I guess he'll arrive in the middle of the Eregion battle but it's so damn frustrating to have so many side-stories, most of which are barely interesting, reducing the screen time for the most interesting ones.
The show is not a failure, it has more viewers than most tv shows and has not really lost any viewers because you can watch the show anytime you want, and many ppl wait until the full season is out and dont watch it week after week, initial viewers are just a starting point, the show will easily get over 100 million viewers over time.
The penguin had far less viewers than RoP has had, so according to the number available RoP is far more popular than many top tv shows that are currently running, initial viewer numbers are only a slight measure of a show, some really great shows will still not pull in large viewer numbers like shogun has a fairly small viewerbase, the only thing that matters is are enough ppl watching the show or not. Not if you think its good or not because that does not matter.

Its losing to shows like emily in paris and "the secret lives of mormom wives" lmao, a lord of the rings show losing audience to those things is a massive failure.
Show didn't retain 60% of their audience in season 1, they did not finish the show at all, they didn't want to watch other time, they didn't want to watch at all.and has not really lost any viewers because you can watch the show anytime you want
the premier of season 2 also, had half the numbers from season 1 with more time to count
False, The Penquin premier was watched by 3 million of households by sambatv metrics, while Rings of shit only had 900kThe penguin had far less viewers than RoP has had, so according to the number available RoP is far more popular than many top tv shows that are currently running,
And some rly shit shows get some big numbers, yes, but this hardly matter when this one have the IP power of lord of the rings and the crap show is not pulling enough numbers neither maintain their audience, despite the budget and IP.some really great shows will still not pull in large viewer numbers like shogun has a fairly small viewerbase
Shogun had reached 9 million viewership and was even most watched show during March 6th. What are you talking about?
Analytics company Samba TV, which gathers viewership data from certain smart TVs and content providers, announced that Shōgun was the most-streamed program across all platforms between February 26 and March 3, 2024.[45][46] It was also the most streamed program across all platforms during its second week.[
TheWrap noted that Shōgun was one of the few non-Netflix series to have a back-to-back number one ranking.[50] On March 6, 2024, it was revealed the show drew 9 million views across Hulu, Disney+, and Star+ in its first six days of release.[51][52] The streaming aggregator Reelgood, which monitors real-time data from 20 million users in the U.S. for original and acquired streaming programs and movies across subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) and ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) services, reported the miniseries was the most streamed program in the United States through March 6, 2024.[53] JustWatch, a guide to streaming content with access to data from more than 20 million users around the world, estimated that Shōgun was the most streamed television series in Canada and in the United States from March 4 to 10, 2024.

...at least GoT had more than a few celebratory seasons. And by the 8th, most, if not all, we're fully invested in every aspect of the show.
“But this isn’t the end. I promise you, this is not the end, and we have to regroup and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible.” ~~Jon Stewart
Bluey, Family Guy, and Grey's Anatomy are 3rd, 5th, and 6th on Nielsen top 10 Overall for 8/19 to 8/25. That doesn't mean they are the pinnacle of television. Popularity doesn't mean anything. NFL games are consistently the top viewed broadcast for the year and that doesn't mean that everything else is a massive failure by comparison. Other shows being popular doesn't mean that Rings of Power is a massive failure.

You know a community is bad when moderators lock a thread because "...this isnt the place to talk about it either seeing as it will get trolled..."
I think my favorite part is people didn't get half as mad over a mid Lotr video game a few years back, with lazier writing. Feels like it's not really about the writing....
Honestly I just think it's it's funny how many people show their ass trying to hate on a TV show. We've moved way past hate watching into hate watching circle jerk orgies of misery. It's really funny. And incredibly sad.
Yeah I heard. I actually quit watching after the first season. I liked the way it was starting out, but wasn't really happy with some of the choices. For instance, killing Sean Bean's character. I felt like I enjoyed seeing him in the show his performance made it feel legitimate. I felt like they could have given him another role that lasted longer. But then I thought about it and could see the writing on the wall. This was going to be one of "those" shows where you never know which of your favorite characters are going to die next type of things.
Also George RR Martin is good, no doubt. But I read the books up till the show came out and it was something like 19 years since the first one was published and the winter STILL hadn't come yet by that point. Wasn't sure if he would ever be able to wrap things up and didn't trust a studio to try and extrapolate based on his already at the time established works.
TLDR; killing for shock value annoys me and I like coherent stories with a good beginning, middle and satisfying end. I don't need ambiguity. Enough of that in real life.

I honestly feel like the writing just compounds the other issues. That's the problem. People are willing to overlook bad or mid writing IF other elements are there. I and many others enjoyed Tolkien's original works as they were written. I feel like if the show runners would have respected the lore and done the show more in the vein of the actual books instead of feeling like they knew-better, then the show wouldn't have garnered so much backlash.
There are literally TONS of videos pointing out the various incongruities and missteps of the show. Now if you want to chock that all up to salty folks just venting/whatever, then that's fine. But you don't get so many people going through such effort for nothing. If you only took one or two points from each of those videos/posts as legit and said the rest were sanctimonious blather, then you would still have a lot of issues in your bucket.
