the trailer looked decent, I mean the special effects didn't look outwardly terrible like they do so often these days. otherwise not a whole lot shown so far.
New Trailer first impressions:
Is that the twin trees of valinor? That was pre-first age, was that in the appendices? That is A LOT of history, so could only be an easter egg, okay I guess...
Furthering moving into warrior Galadrial territory apparently, UGH. Also still no Celeborn....
Also Galadrial saying Elrond hasn't seen what she has seen... Like I get right now he is fresh, but he fights in the war of elves and Sauron and the later Last alliance of elves and men, man was the captain and herald of Gil-galad ffs in the 2nd age, come on why include this. Also having Elrond sass Galadrial, his mother-in-law? ugh.....
Gil-Galad looked better than the shots they have released, actor looked close to the character that was the King of the elves of the west (though like all elves the ears need some work).
Feel like we have seen a lot of the Harfoots, and honestly I get some people love Hobbits, but I like the characters of the hobbits from LoTR, not the race, could have easily done without them. I get that the characters could be as endearing as Pippin and Mary, but considering Harfoots weren't written in the 2nd age it does bug and annoy me.
Dwarfs continue to carry the little hope I have, looked good.
Why did the men on the horses look so thick, like some chunky boys.
I am guessing meteor man is one of the wizards (that was the rumor I heard), and since Ian isn't shown as a cast don't make it a "young" Gandalf ffs. Though another rumors I heard is that it is Sauron, which I wouldn't get since why would Sauron need to "fall" onto middle earth again?
Also the line "The past is dead. We either move forward or die with it" really bothered me, that felt very much like an amazon line to critics rather than a line a character Tolkein wrote would say.
Still not sure why they want to release the show ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF Tolkein's DEATH, rather than Hobbits day a few weeks later.
Yes, the estate wanted a series set in the Second Age and offered up no more than what has already been covered by Peter Jackson (all from the Third Age anyway). They did not offer up anything from the Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales. I'd call that scraps.

I took this more to mean in some kind of visions or premonitions or something; I could be totally off base though.
Interesting.
Makes me wonder if the estate learned what Amazon wanted to do and thought, "Nope. We're not selling you the rights to do that. Make your own fanfic."
So, amazon did but in turn also generated a lot of negative criticism given the fanfic they are showing and what little has been released on it.
Publicity stunt only IMHO.

I think everyone who bid on it pretty much knew they were going to be creating entirely new narratives from scratch. I just wanted to point out that blaming Amazon for coming up with a fanfic isn't entirely fair when the estate required it to be set in the 2nd Age with no reference material.
Edit: Adding in a relevant article for the curious: https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...-tolkiens-plot

Still looks just as awful as the first trailer. Glad to see the comments section is keeping up the good work.

I'm serious. The color palette is extremely washed out. The costumes and set design are bland. The trailer music is boring the voiceovers bland. The lore has been trashed. "Elves have forests to protect. Dwarves have mines. Men have fields"... who thought that this was good?
the desperation to be mad over a voice over describing the groups of people you will see in a trailer meant to introduce you to the world is very serious indeed.
The trailer certainly looks a lot better than the first teaser, the set designs, and the designs of the dwarf and elf architecture look like something straight out of the Hobbit and to some extent LotR. Enjoyed the overuse of sweeping shots which was done in LotR.
The music I am torn on, not sure if its just for the trailer, but I am not a big fan of it. Maybe they'll be some more better ones in the show.
The narrative and the story is what is going to be the win and I cannot see that until the show comes out. I'll twiddle my thumbs until then. The show has a very high bar to live up to, so it is maybe doomed to fail. At best the show can be semi-enjoyable, with some good scenes and good acting. But after the very underwhelming Wheel of Time adaptation I have already been burned by Amazon on their adaptions of popular fantasy. Balls in your court, Amazon, surprise me. :P
My excitement levels have gone from a 4 to a 6 though, so that's good at least :P

I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW
Unsubbed since January 2021, now a Warcraft fan from a distance
Uh....Galadriel has brown eyes, then blue, then brown again...my dudes...wtf?
There are varied accounts but Galadriel was not only present for the Kinslaying at Alqalonde it is said she "fought ferociously" against Feanor and vowed to oppose him in Middle Earth.

The licensing is complicated, there are over a dozen books of letters and notes and stuff that can be dipped in to inform or inspire the characters and events they do have the rights to.
It is 100% literal. Galadriel was born in Valinor before the Years of Darkness and Ages of the Sun. She has seen the light of the two trees of Valinor making her Caliquendi. Elrond was born in Middle-earth in the First Age and will never see the light of the trees making him Moriquendi or dark elf. On top of that Galariel is Amanyar, one who lived in Aman and dwelled among the Valar receiving their spiritual guidance and nourishment. She's two levels above Elrond already and canonically stronger and wiser than all her kin with the same blessings.I took this more to mean in some kind of visions or premonitions or something; I could be totally off base though.
So yeah, both Elrond and Galadriel would likely have seen stuff during the War of Wrath, and Galadriel more likely at the forefront given her greater power and authority, but that is not what she is talking about.
My favourite part is the shot where Galadriel rides with the large host of cavalry and she's wearing 16th century plate armor while the extras (who are presumably humans) are all wearing some really shitty looking ancient scale armor with leggings and plastic larp horse armor. It looks so incredibly bad.
The absolute state of Warcraft lore in 2021:
Kyrians: We need to keep chucking people into the Maw because it's our job.
Also Kyrians: Why is the Maw growing stronger despite all our efforts?
