Star Wars: The Old Republic - Summer Roadmap 2018

    http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20180516

Read it in all it's mediocre glory.

So no expansion this year given this statement but near the end of the year might get a FP or two that leads us into an expansion like SoR had.

May through June there is nothing but an old credit sink event.

To get us through the summer we get some QoL updates and a push for PVP.

While a PvP update is needed, PvP is always a lesser played part of swtor. No PvE/story content at all for the entire summer (July through Sept.) doesn't seem a smart move at all. PvP needs the update but thats a lot of time with no solo or new group content or story in PvE which is easily the larger population swtor has between the two through a time when people have lesser amount of school and work given vacations.

Again to much reliance on extremely old content to hold the larger population of the games players.

I'm not very impressed with that road map.

    TL : DR:
Through the next few months even more galactic command, conquest and guild changes with some QoL changes.

May - Cash shop sales because of the Solo movie and the old credit sink casino event.
June - nothing but the casino event.
July - 2 WZs (Arena + Huttbal) and Rishi Stronghold thats PVP based
    August - nothing
September - Not likely anything unless first of maybe two FPs
October - December - prelude to 6.0 similar to SoR with flash points most likely but they clearly say, "At the end of the year" so Nov/Dec is more possible than Sept.

what a weak 2018 swtor is going to have if that is all they do. As bad as 2017 was with little new content, a complete year of nerfs to nearly every class and they could only pull off one complete operation of 5 bosses in 13 months.

bioware was not kidding when they said 2018 would be like 2017 and 2017 was not something to repeat.

Cross faction PvP queing sounds interesting. I haven't played swtor in about a year. Is there anything like that for pve?

Cross faction PVP has been needed for a very long time in swtor. Even with the server mergers this past year. PvP has needed some help with queue times. There is PvP in swtor but to me it's always seemed smaller in swtor than most other MMo I play. People come to swtor for the story, not the pvp. I hope this helps.

There is nothing cross faction in PvE. That might change but it wasn't mentioned in that post. Seems it's only PvP right now.

Yeah, at this point I've totally given up on Keith being a "saving grace for SWTOR : (

I'm at least glad the game isn't shutting down though and that there are new things to at least keep it online. As long as the game is online and making them money there's always hope that it will get better, though that hope is currently quite small =(

It's got to be making money but with the crazy server merger that happened I don't think it's doing all that well. Though with the cost savings of all the lost servers it made the books look better at least.

I can't see a company killing off their west coast server (hurting those players and APAC players with higher lag) and pushing everyone in the US to 2 east coast servers (EU down to 3) and then thinking their doing all that well. Plus the fact they kept it a secret till it was done wasn't received very well but it has to be making a profit at this point or things would be even worse.

However, I'm surprised at the PvP content push for the next 4 months.

SWTOR was and has always been about the story. Like or hate it. The bulk of all SWTOR is story content. PvP is there but it was never this huge thing or really even talked about. Hasn't even been a selling point for years. It's never been that good. Decent but nothing amazing.

I was surprised to see for the next 4 months or so, it's all PVP when that kind of content in SWTOR was so minor. Content that is usually added in with some other content addition. In saying that, PvP did need some love but only PvP through the summer months when gamers have more time to play seems off to me. PvP just hasn't ever been that large a crowd or all that great in swtor.

It's quite a gamble to me in a game thats clearly struggling.

    Well this was unfortunate news:

Nar Shaddaa Nightlife Event is now running through June but bioware didn't bother to update it. For the next two months thats swtor content.

Same in game credit sink as last year with nothing new added.

Regarding the pvp push, it's not the first time that BW seems to be blindly copying Blizzards direction in WoW. Why they do that, rather than trying to stay true to their own vision or deviate into something unique (and they have had the ingredients for that in the past) is something I don't know. But seeing that in their announcement really did make me smile

Hope they add new classes eventually

Sadly, at this point I don't think that is something bioware is capable of doing.

I can't say they balance the classes they do have all that well. I can't imagine them capable of adding in another class and balancing it around the rest of them.

Hell. Bioware can't get content out at even a snails pace and when they do it it out, it a bug filled mess. A new class with a new story I just can't imagine bioware pulling that off given how far the game has fallen.

Not to mention that I believe they've said if they are going to do a new class they'd want to do it right, meaning a full 1-50 storyline to go along with both factions which would be far, far more work for than they're capable of doing now without a really meaningful return.

They really did shoot themselves in the foot in a lot of ways due to some early design decisions for the game that were spectacularly short sighted : /

"Doing it right" sounds exactly like something bioware would say. They said the same thing about the companions that have still not been returned. How they will "do it right" when those companions come back.

It's barely a 2 min cut scene per companion (and some that lasted barely 30 secs and that includes you decision making moment) and the reasons they add for them not being there are just WTF poor moments of poor story telling.

OH, you were my right hand man for years? "Oh, I've been in prison for years while you were the great alliance leader and commander doing everything and built an alliance with some of the so-called greatest minds ever. Thanks for leaving me IN PRISON OH GREAT LEADER. Oh BTW, can I join you again."

Lets just say biowares "doing it right" has been oh so wrong.

Personally, id be happy with an empty roadmap for 5 years that ended with a single player version of the game fully modifiable to the levels of skyrim.

This was the demise of the pvp scene right from the get-go. No cross realm pvp killed the game pretty fast. At first it was a hardcore reroll to Pot5 to compete. But it was a hard reroll to a new server then. No character xfers. Had to roll alts for the buffs. Was a disaster. Then they removed the 8man pvp content for arena-style deathmatch. I like the addition of the arenas dont get me wrong, it was much needed. But to remove the 8man stuff? why the fuck!

i really like the story driven aspect of the game.

Well to be honest it's hard to do anything when resources are being sunk into Anthem. Which really sucks but it's reality...and when Anthem likely fails ToR and even BW will probably be done too...

the early design decisions were wonderful. the problem was EA being involved, being soulless dogs.

i've been getting the urge to play this again, but idk how much that'll pan out. i've watched all the story on xletalis's channel, i could see myself tolerating going through it once, to get to this new empire vs. republic stuff.

How did ea screw them, they put a ton of money into the game with every thing being voice acted with tons of branching choices for multiple classes putting even more money into the game.

because when subs dropped, like they always do with mmos, EA stepped in to fuck up the game.

no more money to do more class specific content, the cash shop was added, all that shit. it's because EA is soulless, they do not care about delivering something good, or they would have put the money in to make more class specific content, they wouldn't have forced the cash shop and scummy behavior.

I mean we got two huge story lines with raven and the knights which were pretty high quaility it’s not like they comptly pulled out.

they obviously had to put some in to keep the cash shop getting money, but it wasn't class specific storylines like 1-50.

they could have kept republic vs. empire, class specific, all that good shit. operations, more pvp maps. but they didn't most of it, and skimped on what they did add.
