2 Sets of Servers -What If?

What if Blizzard launched two sets of Vanilla servers with different rules?

The first 'set' is Blizz/Vanilla like, with population caps, on a PvP server you can play one faction only, all the inconveniences of Vanilla and so on.

The second set of servers had Dynamic Re-spawn, ability to join BG's from anywhere in the world, population cap lifted to +10k, you could play both factions of a PvP server. Lastly, wiliness to listen to the community about other additions/changes?

Neat idea but I don't think Blizzard is interested in maintaining three different versions of the game at a time.

Vanilla is not designed for that many players.

They'd have to put heavily dynamic respawns on everything, and even then certain things (like escort quests) would be a nightmare because you'd have like 30+ people all trying to do it at once. Or the hunter epic quest demons, having a whole shitload of people all fighting over those 4 mobs.

I've played on servers that got up to 8-9k online every single day. It was awful.

Standby because you know the initial release is going to be really cap heavy.

A neat idea, I like it, but I could see it not happening depending on how much server maintenance Blizzard will have to do just maintaining one type of vanilla servers, let along an alternate option.

One idea I had was, and this is so highly hypothetical that I won't make a new thread, plus, I think someone else mentioned it... how cool would it be for Blizzard to release "what if?" update patches to Classic if Classic proves very successful? Like, what if Kael'thas and the Blood Elves re-joined the alliance? What if Ogres joined the Horde and became playable just in Classic? What if Illidan wasn't written terribly and came to Azeroth to help us quell a demon invasion restricted to simply The Blasted Lands and Dark Portal? (I'm not saying full blast Burning Crusade redux.) I know Blizzard won't want to support two versions of retail, I just think it would be really cool to see Classic take an alternate path. When I read "What if" that's what I imagined. lol

There is no need - vanilla is pretty well defined, so there isn't (or shouldn't be) any confusion about what it contains.

However - I imagine there will be PvE and PvP servers and RP servers as expected.

Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.

Would sound like a waste of resources just to do.
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

Funny part is after a year or so the second set would be healthier.

So what if Blizzard had 2 Classic servers with 1 of them not following Classic rules? Cool dawg. Maybe add some LFR to that other Classic server too

It'll be sad, starting up a character on a Vanilla server and not being able to get your friends in because it filled up too fast. I suppose we might want to wait a week or two for things to stabilize before joining, eh?

They are highly likely going to have at least two to four servers as is. (Up to one per server type), so eh.

  12. #12
That would be nice but blizz doesnt want to maintain 2 games

Then some people would play on the first set, while some would play on the second set.

No way. They will develop 1 and that's it.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

I could enjoy a fun Vanilla server which is still as much vanilla as possible but is somewhat easier
    somewhat....
    higher exp rates
higher drops (not talking about bosses but herb, mining drops, gold)
lower re spawn rates in instances
lower cost for items (vanilla flaks were so freaking expensive)
    lower cost for respec

WHen I played Vanilla I was still in school (well at least in the beginning, later I started working). Now I dont have as much free time like back in the old days.

They could also make a third server featuring LFR and garrison missions /s

More would be demanded until we literally had one for every single patch in the game. Then people would still complain. Minecraft did it.
