    The Boys

Its probably a wee bit early for this thread but I just heard Karl Urban got cast as Billy Butcher and im so freaking hyped for this 2019 series

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boys_(2019_TV_series)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boys_(comics)

The comic series is set between 2006–2008 in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the superheroes in the series' universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. For this reason, a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as "The Boys", is charged with monitoring the superhero community; the name is Butcher's contribution, a reference from his neighborhood that those in power would send "the boys" to handle anyone causing trouble.

This is gonna be a hardcore show with f'ed up drug/sex addicted versions of the Justice League and X-men going up against CIA squad with synthetic powers.

Theres so much "shocking" events in the series im a bit worried how neutered its gonna be on TV. For instance one scene has the superman of that universe rape a married woman and then a super strong flying fetus explodes out of her chest while shes sleeping in bed with her husband.

Its definately my favorite stand alone comic series that ive ever read.

It's not. The series is twisted as as hell, can be quite hilarious...and I have serious doubts about it being adapted properly.

I'm not thrilled by Rogen being involved, I'd rather see the guys from Happy! adapt it. Will give the first episode a try, but expecting to have my heart broken again.

What if there was a military contractor/company trying to push superheroes as the next thing in defence. Say this company bought the vice president and when 9/11 happened managed to call off the fighter jets escorting the last hijacked plane. Instead they send in untrained Supes to save them and it goes very wrong and the plane takes out the Brooklyn bridge. Its all hushed up by the company and buys off any lawsuits and its open warfare between the President and the Vice President but the country has no idea.

Its all covered up but one guy comes to the C.I.A and says the supes need policing and they agree by putting a covert team to Watch the Watchmen. Any Supe who put a foot out of line get a warning, they dont tend to get a second warning.

If only there was some way you could avoid being forced to watch them. Dammit.

What a surprise. Elba being contrarian.

Meh. While it sounds interesting, I am still holding out hope for the WildCards TV series adaption that I heard being whispered about a while back. WildCards done by HBO? Hell yes.

Yeah, Martin needs another fucking distraction from what he should be doing.

Am I wrong, though? Try hard edgy was bad in the 90s, it was bad in the 00s and it is bad now.

I don't see what anybody over the (mental) age of 14 would get out of this.

From what you linked it was picked up by Amazon video so I don't think it will be neutered much as they don't have the same constraints that broadcast TV has. Although I suspect the exploding mother and flying baby scene will probably get left out or changed significantly.

    Well, you're perpetually wrong.

So there is a chance you'll enjoy it.

Last time I checked, there were 20 odd other people who contributed to the WildCards universe that studios could go to without needing to tap Martin, so I am pretty sure they can leave him to continue trying to finish ASoIaF before he kicks it of old age.

Why would you pick up a property known for outrageous, over the top violence and neuter it? Starz didn't neuter Ash vs Evil Dead. Granted, Hollywood does some moronic shit but I'm just arguing from a logical perspective.

Not really, no. But seriously, nothing wrong with mature content. But shit like this is just dumb.

You actually think he wouldn't want to stick his fat, non-typing fingers in it? Come on.

I said that I don't think it would be neutered. I only commented on that one scene likely being changed for one reason or another. Probably more for technical reasons than anything else as making a baby explode out of a mothers chest and fly around the room is probably going to eat an entire seasons worth of CGI budget to make look even remotely realistic.

As for Ash vs Evil Dead(oh how I love this show and how sad I am that it is now over) I imagine that level of gore violence etc. will be fine on for this new show I just don't think they will do that one scene.
