India Overtakes France to Become World’s Sixth-Largest Economy

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ntent=business

India has overtaken France to become the world’s sixth biggest economy, latest data from the World Bank show. The South Asian nation is now a $2.597 trillion economy and only a tad higher than France’s $2.582 trillion. It will be the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2022, according to projections by the International Monetary Fund.

The composition of the G7 and the UN Security Council are getting more and more outdated every day.
"This is no swaggering askari, no Idi Amin Dada, heavyweight boxing champion of the King's African Rifles, nor some wide shouldered, medal-strewn Nigerian general. This is an altogether more dangerous dictator - an intellectual, a spitefull African Robespierre who has outlasted them all." - The Fear: Robert Mugabe and the martyrdom of Zimbabwe, Peter Godwin.

Of course this is Bloomberg and who the hell I am to say this but..corruption and black economy ruled by different crime syndicates would swap these numbers pretty drastically. GPD is controlled by these syndicates...

Well, India's population is more than 20x that of France. Efficiency counts.

If you have over a billion people and you raise their standard of living by a just a little bit, you've added a lot of money to your economy.

    Congratulations India.

The same situation as with China and USA - you just have to compare populations and the economy size. Make conclusions based on that, instead of loud news articles.
Country with 1.3 billion people overtook one with 67 million. Not so rosy picture anymore, eh?

Was it better when they were doing worse with more population?

Their per capita GDP has improved but they have a ways to go.

Not really. The overall purchasing power and contribution to the global economy hasn't changed. India still has way less disposable income than France, still has a lot less of an ability to trade, manufacture or invest.

Size matters. But how you can wield it remains more important. That's why small economies like Canada, Australia, Sweden or Norway wield such a disproportionate influence.

I swear all Indian women I met in the U.S. have a PhD. My cousin is married to one with double PhDs. PhD in Biomed from Caltech and law degree from Harvard.

What does Bose mean for India?

Actually I found Satyendra Nath Bose, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Amar Bose. Not sure what you mean by Bose.

Salty? Why? Actually ironic, but news like this should be taken with a grain of salt themselves.

    It was worse, of course.
