I think getting attacked by a predator bigger and stronger than you is really the only rational reason to have a gun with you in the wild.

Its easy to blame all those people wandering in the wilds when u live in the town surrounded by mostly humans and domestic animals. But people living in far away villages surrounded by the wilds cant be pacifist if they want to survive, they need to defend their children and their cows/sheeps/goats from the wolves.
