The developers have talked about the future and how factions are going to remain as they are and there isn't going to be a form of gameplay where in PVE people of opposite factions can group up together. "the divide is such a core part of the story and game" part of the recent Ion Forbes interview.

There are things that Blizz may intend to do that they can't really state at the time. Right now, they want to push a faction vs faction storyline and expansion, so for the time being, they have to state that they intend to keep this route. This doesn't mean you're wrong and they may never cross that line. But I definitely believe Blizz is more open-minded in this regard.

People doubted the idea Mechagnomes for alliance for so long I just don't get why.

Two big reasons.

1. Nobody except Gnomeregan Forever actually likes Gnomes.

2. They have some design problems. Namely their robotic parts. Meaning either they have to have entire gear slots just not show up, or their special customization and the thing that makes them distinct from regular Gnomes is never seen.

An extension off point 2, though. This probably explains why not only did Blizz let us hide chestpieces in 8.2, they also let us hide everything except pants. So mechagnomes can still show off and wear bracers/gloves.

The disappointment is Horde gets that while Alliance gets Gnomes.

Giving the Alliance a second set of gnomes with essentially the same backstory and mentality would be pretty strange. They'd work much better as cosmetic options for regular gnomes. Dark Iron and Lightforged at least have vastly different mentalities.

Ankoans would be more interesting. Personally i'd like to see a race with no mammalian dimorphism.

If I had to guess the idea is every race gets a mug. Allied and Normal. But only some are implemented.

Vulpera was obvious from the get-go. Same with Mechagnomes, although personally I'd have prefer them to be additional customization options for gnomes. No skin off my nose, though, so I hope they're distinguished from regular gnomes other than being just "cyborgs with more mechanical know-how". Kind of like how Kul Tirans are different from worgen (werewolf humans) and standard humans (which are, well, standard LOL).

I would LOVE to have playable Ankoan. Had a dream a couple nights back I was playing as one, and vulpera were playable, too.
