Because i decided (for some reason) that i want to gear up my alt COMPLETELY via PvP.

    As a test

And so far is a nightmare. Its less of a nightmare now that i know i must spam Arenas with randoms.
I guess i will be fine.

Well yeah, you will most likely get insta-killed a bunch if you are low ilvl though. Tested with my 306 mage, and most people just looked at me and my 78k HP was gone.

Personally I think I would recommend just gearing through HCs first, up to 330-340, then spam Arenas, as it will be easier to get into higher rating that way (higher rating=higher ilvl drops).

Though I had great success on my main today, and got 20 items in about an hour, it does seem that I had a lot of luck on my side, judging from what one replied to me earlier in this thread. Most of that gear was around 325-330 though, while I am 346.

Do you get gear from random BGs aswell? Haven't done any of those yet in BfA. Sounds like a fun little project (mostly because I love PvP, and grow tired of PvE really quick). Would never do it if I didn't find Arena fun, as it can be extremely furstating at times, especially with randoms (like one healer I played with today, that had no clue how to play his class).

So you are also a "victim" to the system and you decided to spam arenas like everyone else?
And made new friends in arenas you wouldnt do otherwise?

    Im just guessing here.

I have done like 20-30 BGs and got zero gear.
Did 30 arenas and got 3 epics 340.

The system is broken and requires you to do arenas...if you are like me. (undergeared alt trying to gear up via PvP)

Im having no problems winning with ilvl 320 now because of the scaling system. But im playuing against noobs

Thing is, its the same thing they did in Legion and not only did it not work, PvP participation plummeted (a ~90% falloff in both rated and unrated). The much better incentiviser was the way it was from the end of LK - WoD: you could cap Conquest from casuals/rando BGs, but it was slow. Or you could do "2s for points" and cap quite quickly. A lot of casual players (even those who didnt really like Arena) could stomach doing 10-15 matches of "2s for points", and were lured into doing so because it was quite a bit faster than just doing randos.

THAT actually worked to inflate the ladder. This system just encourages people to not even play. When you MUST do rated AND get decent rating to get decent gear, which mathematically ~80% of the people on the ladder cannot ever do, it just makes people not bother playing at all. They realize they can never get good gear and just dont bother.

The Legion/BfA system is already a proven failure. If casuals cant get worthwhile gear through the system, they wont participate. Full stop. Without them, the ladder collapses, queue times skyrocket, and the entire PvP system breaks down.

Imo Blizzard should have made PvP as a whole more enticing to all WoW players by improving matchmaking in random BGs to avoid the common and completely avoidable lopsided matches, such as matching X healers vs 0 or a full premade vs solo queuers, but most of all make PvP more enticing by taking the reward structure out of the time-gated casino that is the rest of the game at this point.

I am now going to take a step back and very seriously unleash my intelligence on the state of the game which will be trigger material for some, but here it goes:

What they should have done is reintroduced PvP gear in concrete terms, with two tiers: honor and conquest gear from vendors. When using PvE gear regardless of ilvl it should have roughly the same power as honor gear, with conquest gear being undoubtedly the best gear to use in PvP. Both honor and conquest gear should be mediocre gear when used in PvE, so that it does not interfere with the meticulously calculated weekly/daily gambling that is PvE now. This would allow for a separate progression that people can make in PvP, a separate timesink, that is far more linear than daily/weekly gambling while still being a timesink.

Separating PvE from PvP would pull PvPers out of PvE of course, god forbid all lost sub money that would translate into, and it would replace the discrepancy in power between players that raid or have high percentile ratings with a discrepancy between players that have either conquest or honor gear, oh the horror. People would also have to carry around a PvP set again, not just change talents every time they switch from PvE to PvP.

The point is that all this is a very small price to pay from a player's perspective for the opportunity for everyone to be able to get a full set of conquest again, with people at low ratings or people doing nothing other than battlegrounds simply completing the set slower. In fact, it would be a much more level playing field than it has been in years, despite all the smoke and mirrors of templates, scaling or deceptively coining a completely unrelated reward system "conquest", all of which were really only cooked up to facilitate the shameless casino that is now permeating all reward structures in this game, including PvP.

tl;dr Blizzard is spitting in the "casual" player's face and coercing him onto the ladders. What they should have done instead is draw more people to PvP in general starting with the "casuals" in random BGs, and then the ladders would have naturally filled up. Why doesn't Blizzard do this? because it directly clashes with the reward systems of PvE, which they unfortunately decided should include PvP.
Agree with this mostly. For all its OTHER numerous faults, the PvP GEARING system in WoD was the best. PvP gear was sub-par in PvE (except for that whole "only two raid tiers but three PvP seasons" problem - but thats easily solved by like.. not cutting raids, or only increasing the in-PvP iLevel and leaving the PvE iLevel of the new gear the same as the previous seasons' gear), PvE gear was OK in PvP but not the best, and everyone could get a full set of PvP gear at whatever pace they wanted. You could do randos, do Ashran, do 2s for points, Arena full time, Rated BGs, whatever you wanted.

This current system just encourages the people who used to fill the bottom 80% of the ladder to not even bother.

Wouldn't call it a victim, as it is how the system is. I've made tens, if not hundreds of friends over the decade playing this game. Both in PvE and PvP. Today I got 4 new ones I know I can safely queue up in arena with. There are so many on my friendslist I can do so, and not everyone is online at all times, or don't want to play the comps my spec is best at, as people change mains every now and then.

So no, I wouldn't have made those new friends if I hadn't been doing arena, but that doesn't make me a victim. I'd rather say it made me a winner, friends to play with is everything in an MMO.
On the other hand, I could have spent the day spamming +5 keys to get 355 gear, and made other friends the exact same way.

Guess an MMO is about making friends in my opinion. If I wanted to play a singleplayer RPG game, I'd dust of Skyrim.

Making a 2v2 arena rewarding MORE Conquest Points than a friggin entire Battleground is a nut show.
How doest this make any sense to anyone?

A 2v2 arena gives 10 CP and takes 5min to finish
An entire battleground takes 25 min (counting the queue timer) and awards 8 CP

How in the actuall F does this make any sense?

You just need 10 3v3 arena wins right? or does someone have a quicker method of obtaining the cap?

Yes, the quickest way for the cap is 10 wins of 3v3's...or so they say, i havent seen how much a 3v3 awards after the win of the day with my own eyes.
But they say is only 10 matches so i believe.
Could be wrong...and its strange now that i think about it...

so you really can just spam them and get conquest pretty quick.
also world pvp gives abit of conquest so there is that
i am shit at pvp, have not reached 2k since wotlk, and even then it was me getting carried.
yet i got capped days ago.

also yes 2v2 is 10, but 3v3 is 50, so you literally just win 10 3v3's and your done
Are you sure you just need 10 3x3's to reach the cap?
Isnt that the win of the day bonus?

If you do more than one you get less i assume?

To all you peeps saying just do rated arenas, you do realise that a majority of people refuse to play them because so few classes are viable. I tried doing a few skimishes on my warlock, on the rare occasion my partner just didn't leave immediately, I was wrecked before I could get half my dots up.

Bgs are a lot more forgiving, and infinitely more fun.

They are trying to force people onto the ladder. Not realizing, imguess, that when they did this in Legion it failed catastrophically.

This is a straight up lie, but you would know that if you actually played any arena. I played 34 games in 2v2 and won 26 and only got 285 conquest which took about 2 hrs.

Exactly, but money talks and PvP for the unfortunate but largely unaware 80% was clearly a sacrifice Blizzard was willing to repeat with BfA. As far as I can tell they will keep rebranding the same reward principles every expansion just to keep confusing them and keeping them somewhat happy.

But you are right though that despite perhaps not fully realizing Blizzard's intentions and the underlying principles, people do end up simply not participating at all. BfA's push is more aggressive than Legion's push though and it might just work. If you look at raiding, they did a very similar thing with LFR and later Flex, which by the way also aggressively pushed people out of LFR by trivializing the gear in LFR just like they have trivialized gear outside of rated play now. They very successfully pushed a very large portion of the playerbase into those two tiers of "raiding", and thus got them on that reward treadmill; so many more people "raid" today than they did previously. The PvP push of the playerbase is more aggressive of course.

How is the weekly cap working exactly, say if I have 300/500 at the end of the week, does this carry over to the next week?

I already got the cap, but I am just wondering for a guild mate who is rather casual and he didnt want to queue into arena with me if its not carrying over. I just didnt know exactly, I said to him it resets, but I was not sure.

  18. #58
I honestly don't have much of a problem with it so long as your progress toward whatever doesn't reset the next week. If it does that... then that's just downright abusive toward casual PVP player gameplay. Does anyone know if it does that yet? The general assumption I've read is "We don't know yet."

  19. #59
It sucks. I was spamming dungeons to get 2 340 weapons, but no weapon has ever dropped. Not even in my normal/heroic clears of Uldir. So I was gonna say screw it and at least get the guaranteed pvp weapon. Until I found out I have to win to even get any conquest. Horde on my battlegroup loses 90% of the time, and only the small bgs. So screw that.
If what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Then I should be a god by now.

Seems like Blizzard wants you to do Rated Arenas to reach the weekly cap
Because doing it via casual Battlegrounds is outright masochism

Seems like the fastest way is in 3v3's, you only need to win 10 times.

Or you can win 49 2v2's....

Or maybe a mix of 2v2's and some daily Bg's is a good choice..
