My boyfriend and I saw this tonight and have to say Captain Marvel was a bad ass movie. Total throwback to the 90's for those that experienced it. I was telling my boyfriend on the way home how her smartass remarks were almost on par with Deadpool's too. And just for the record it wasn't bad ass for a "chick movie". It was bad ass because it was bad ass. Also 2 things. Stan Lee had a cameo and you need to stick around after the closing credits. Just in case this is a "spoiler" I'll tag is as such but the scene where she controls her powers for the first time & starts fighting those people, the song playing was fucking brilliant! Huge No Doubt fan & saw them in concert on their Tragic Kingdom tour.
Just got back from seeing it. overall I'd say it was one of the better origin stories Marvel has done, and it met all its goals and fit into the current darker tone of the MCU very well. my main criticisms would be that Larson has a few scenes where she tried to be charming or charismatic, and failed, and that the narrative overall was a bit jumbled and confusing, though it sort of had to be to allow the plot to roll out the way it did. overall.. I'd give it a B.

Great movie. It doesn't have the weight of a Winter Soldier or an Infinity War, but that's not what it's trying to do. It's easily top-tier Marvel and as good as any of the origin movies, while also as fun as the Guardians movies or Thor: Ragnarok.
When you see some shattered incel complaining that Brie Larson doesn't want white men to go this movie, point and laugh at their shrivelled genitalia, because they're sure as fuck not using them for any useful purpose.
ill just throw this out there: GOTG2 was better than 1.

while i agree that it was a very good film, it wasnt anywhere near as fun as GOTG or ragnarok.. and nor should it have been. this is a rather dark, somber time in the MCU, it have been very jarring to throw a comedic romp between IW and EG.
Eh, I liked both movies but preferred the original GOTG more. Overall its a solid movie with some issues *Captain Marvel* worth the money but not the best Marvel has to offer either. But the issues is not related to acting but more towards how jarring the start is. They really should have put more thought into it. The second have is much better and the next Captain Marvel movie in the franchise will be a lot better due to not having to deal with some of how the origin story went.
I'll give it a 4/10. Better than thor the dark world for sure...
The political bullshit took me right out of the film. I just couldn't get immersed. Which made the entire plot predictable. Even the "twists" were easy to see coming. When I'm immersed in a film I can never predict anything in them because I'm not actually thinking about the film. I just sit back and enjoy it.
The best parts were all from Ben Mendelsohn and Sam Jackson. Goose is overrated.
Alita is infinitely better of a film.
Edit: Actually, the opening Marvel logo was THE BEST part of the movie. If you've seen it, you'll know why. Brought my wife to tears. Hits right in the feels.
The movie was good.
The feminism inserts were cringey.
I'm disappointed they turned the skrulls into misunderstood refugees, I think they should have left enough leeway in them for a possible Secret Invasion story and to give the FF a Super-Skrull to fight.
Also, how does the Chitauri invasion of Earth not qualify as an emergency? Or when the Black Order's spaceship parked itself in New York? How did Fury not at least have a headsup that shit was going down in Wakanda so he could have gotten the call out 40 minutes earlier instead of just after Thanos's snap? So Captain Marvel's been playing Space-Moses for the last 30 years?
If you say so! They've come out and said it's a feminist film, and many people are noticing all the times they try and push their political bullshit within the film. I'm not going to spoil or even get into the film with you. It's not worth my time. This is my last post in this thread. Going to put this garbage behind me and hope it doesn't infect the rest of the Marvel movies.
I used to be crazy into playing cards all thru the 1990s and the timeline in this film was really screwed up. On the entrance door to the bar there was an ad for texas hold em. Now, back in the early to mid 1990s (and trust me with all the box cars everyone is driving, this is early to mid 1990s. cars became more aerodynamic in the late 1990s) texas hold em wasn't a thing. The king of card games back then was euchre. There was MASSIVE euchre tournaments on campus when i was in college in the early to mid 1990s. Many also played spades and hearts. Nobody played poker. Hold em became popular only at the very end of the 1990s. Poker Stars website didn't even launch until 2001. Chris Moneymaker won the big tournament in 2003.
But no, you wouldnt see an ad for texas hold em on a bar entrance door in the early to mid 1990s.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.
Mmmm, I wouldn't be too sure about that.
But of course that's the kind of argument that could go on forever.

I would put the ending of Infinity War on par with the one in ESB personally.
You know people used to complain about ESB not having a proper ending back in the 80s? Some people.

Well. You got me there.
