Right now all 3 specs are close to equally strong. Of course every specc has his peaks like ST Burst or AoE burst ...

But right now were able to play the specc we want and wont have the feeling that we miss DPS.

    Enjoy the time.

I prefer Fire and Frost btw
Agreed. People will find a way to complain about anything, but Mage's are in a pretty good spot right now compared to how the specs have been in the past. I'm still worried about Frost scaling, and talents are still a little too obvious in terms of which to pick in a given tier...but overall it's not bad right now.

Also consider that I think 8.1 will see HUGE class changes. The PTR has been out for weeks now and we haven't seen the proposed changes yet...it's going to be massive if they're waiting this long. I expect a lot of balance, talent changes, azerite, etc.

"Viablity" is an intellectually lazy discussion, and it has always been for the last 10 or so years.

Half of "viability" is knowing the fight. The other half is having the right gear for the spec you're using. This is the case for all classes and specs, including the mage.

Looking at top parses is just garbage. To get superb parses, most bosses in <insert raid name> require of you to be extremely lucky with debuffs and timers so you can turret 100% of the fight. Good luck with that.

Define busted? The Fire burst is insane, and I'm having soooo much fun as fire in arena. I'd dare say amongst the most fun I've had in arenas.

You can get 95-99 parses by doing mechanics if you are not garbage.
    @Topic
Fire is really strong on most fights in uldir.

You can't, because there will always be plenty of parses where people weren't affected by mechanics or were affected in a less punishing way.

You NEED Blaster Master traits on azerite to do well as fire, or else fire is dogshit. It's really helpful to have a Balefire Branch as well, or something comparable, but that's a lot of specs.

Check your azerite to see if you have Blaster Master, if so, try fire out, if not, don't try fire out publicly unless you want to just be competitive with the tanks on dmg.

That's not even remotely true, why do you spout such bs? You want to have the trait, but it's not make or break. You can deal good dps without it.

That statement is just as wrong without context.

True for PvP.. there are options for PvE though.

What context would you need? If you never get a roiling deceit on Zek'voz. Which group are you in on Mother. How many times were you targeted for CC on Myhtrax sic
Almost every boss in Uldir has some sort of a mechanic that prevents you from having 99,9% uptime.

So if you want to compare your logs to other people, you'd need to find only parses that match that particular parse regarding DPS downtimes, downtimes which, considering equal skill, are determined by sheer luck.

lmao how bad do you suck at this game to think this is even remotely true?

Because you don't need perfect rng to parse 95% on a lot of / most bosses, depending on the encounter, your gear, your level of execution and raid it can be enough not to be unlucky.

It's not about perfect parse but WTB Orange parse when MC'd or debuffed in some other way during combustion+lust etc.

Even leaving aside the fact that on Mythrax MC is cast every 15 seconds and your AP/Rune last 10, the chance of getting hit by it is like what? 1/18? So getting MC'd is somewhere between misplaying and being unlucky.

And that's basically the worst RNG Uldir throws at you.

Not entirely true, even if you make some good points, but you conveniently neglect the raid size. Playing in a 12 people raid and a 25 people raid is just day and night. You have fewer chances to get targeted by an ability with a larger raid, hence less impact on your rotation, your DPS, and you'll probably end up with way better parses.

You also need to have a mostly skilled / decent raid. If for example you need to spread (let's say Mythrax or even G'huun) and some random idiot keeps strafing while DPSing even though all he has to do is stand still and DPS, or when someone jumps on you with an explosive corruption, forcing you to move now or you allow the idiot to potentially wipe the raid, then your parses will suck no matter what and can't do anything about it but tell the guy who almost killed you to nicely take a break from the game. Forever.

When should I transition to Fire? Still in heroics/beginning mythics for raid. I like fire, but I think frost is the better dps at lower levels. I really like fire though. My best parse was actually arcane on fetid.

Good enough to having reading comprehension that's capable of reading WCL, and more likely than not a lot better than you.

It's a requirement for pvp, and idk what logs you read, but on WCL there are exactly 0 good parses without BM.

    all good players have BM

After the second buff to fire it was fine. Not strong, but fine. Was certainly pulling ahead of frost.

Define good parse then? I think for the vast majority of MMO-C 95%+ would be considered good.

No one is disputing that BM stacking is by far the best way to go, but that doesn't mean that your DPS is terrible if you don't have it. People were starting to play fire again before BM was a common thing.
