WoW balance should be focused on 1v1 PvP

Once all classes and specs have a chance to beat each other if played right, then the rest of the game is ready to be designed around it.

You can't do it in reverse, to first create PvE bosses, then balance classes to be about equal in dps/healing meters and then tweak them because of the pvp. That can only work for one patch, then it has to be done all over again. If they would do first balance classes and specs around 1vs1 then they would only have to balance it once per expansion and not having to waste time in the future.

Sure, take blood DK vs disc priest and see how they beat each other.

2 hours later... nope, still nothing.

PvP should never even be taken into account to balance anything.

This is you thinking about WoW in a current state. What you just described should NOT supposed to happen. Balance the shit out of 1v1 and you won't have those situations.

At the end of all, PvP is what matters. Once you go through all struggle of getting gear, 1v1 is what matters.
How stupid is that you spend months and month of farming...and then not being able to win a single duel.

Well I'm glad you have no real power in regards to class/spec balance.

Not gonna mince words here, it would be an absolute disaster to balance the game around 1v1 PvP.

For starters, 1v1 PvP is probably the least participated in activity, even with War Mode. End game PvP is all structured team content and it's PvE content (both casual and hardcore) that the majority of the playerbase is interested in. No one is going to say "well, my spec sucks at doing damage in a dungeon but at least I can beat anyone in a duel!"

No it should not. Wow should imo be balanced on Ranged-Melee-Healer in the 3s bracket. Things like double melee and double caster are cancer to the game and not fun to watch. Playing double melee and double caster should incur some sort of passive penalty that encourages people to play the melee-ranged comps.

And remove tanks from PvP. Stop trying to balance. They have no place because their entire purpose falls apart in PvP

As for 1v1 and 2v2, don't bother with those.

Yeah, they should delete all classes except one so the game is balanced to 1v1 !

No game with different classes, heroes, champions, specializations, whatever should EVER be focused around 1v1 if it is in any way a team-game. Not to mention that the only realistic way to accomplish it, is to make everyone the same, or so similar there are no major difference. Honestly this is one of the stupidest things I have heard all week, congratulations.

    That's nonsensical

    1. Game is based around rock paper scizzors, if every class is equal they would have to homogonise everything.
    2. Different classes scale differently with gear, balancing everyone at the start of the expansion in no way means it's balanced by the end, quite the contrary.
    3. Blizzard don't attempt to make classes equal in healing/dps, they give the classes niche strengths and weaknesses, then balance based on trends.

Your idea would work if you removed all classes and replaced them with 4 basic classes, (tank, healer, melee, ranged) and a handful of basic utility abilities shared... Like a MOBA, but even more dumbed down. Otherwise pretty nonsensical and clear you haven't thought it through.

It sounds like you are just having problems with matchups. Tell me, what are you struggling with?

When was this exactly? I can't be the only one remembering rogues dueling naked that could stunlock you to death. God help you if they were in full Naxx gear.

I remember a comic back on the old WoW website about two holy pallies who had been duelling for hours in Goldshire. Eventually the audience gets tired, and one remarks he heard of two resto druids who had been duelling since last Tuesday.
The most difficult thing to do is accept that there is nothing wrong with things you don't like and accept that people can like things you don't.

In a game with healers and tanks you can't really balance around 1v1. Best you could do is Rock/Paper/Scissor balance or Pokemon Type Balance.

In a world of FOTM re-rolling you just figure out how to counter the current FOTM to figure out what the next FOTM is.

Hello. This post is intended to be in the General WoW forum, not PvP. This is aimed towards WoW as a whole but mostly towards PvE, so I would request that this topic is moved back to where it belongs. It has nothing to do with pvp.

yeah just balance it dude, so easy

    But PvP doesn't matter.

1v1 balancing is practically impossible, esp when you have 36 specs in the game.

No competitive RPG-ish game is balanced w/ 1v1 in mind, they're almost always balanced around main competitive format, in case of WoW it's 3v3s.

It doesn't in a current situation. It can't. But balance the game around 1v1 and it will matter. Everything would be better including raid bosses.

But people prefer 1v1 and 2v2 over 3v3.
