Curious how many actually participate/follow what Blizzard calls e-sport? Any data on this? Is it a thing or we talking less than 5% of gamers?

Both arena and MDI is getting a lot of views which is what matters. They rank pretty highly on ''most watched esports'' and this is with a weak ass prize pool even.
We humans have to stick together
If you connect your battle.net and twitch then watch Arena Tournament, you get patron of war title. According to stats, at least 9% bothered.

lol well thats up for debate if people actually care about the e-sport or just getting an unobtainable title.
just like the virtual ticket for blizzcon a lot of people are simply buying it for the unique mounts/pets etc, just go into the thread about virtual ticket and the rewards and see people going "i'd buy it for a murloc pet" or "no mount not worth $50"
If such a small percentage of gamers are interested then why are 3v3 balance forced on the 9x%?

You can swap between twitch/youtube and total hours/esports hours to get an idea of where things stand.
Note that these results are based on monthly views, so they tend to spike and drop depending on whether they have events planned during that month.
