For some people, these points strike the opposite of fear :P
Can't speak for new players, but reversing alot of the convenience additions is something I am looking forward to.

    If you wanted to get a higher rank ability for a hunter's pet you had to;
Leave your pet at a stable master - this was very dangerous as without a pet Hunters had no way of keeping mobs at range (guns and bows had a minimum range, within that range you had to melee.)
Go and find a beast with the ability you need.
    Tame it.
Have it fight using the ability you need, eventually you will learn how to teach other pets the ability.
Release the beast back into the wild - it will attack you.
Go to a stable master to retrieve your original pet.
    Teach it the new ability.

If you Feigned Death and waited until the timer ran down you would actually die.

You had to feed pets the appropriate food to keep them happy. Happy pets did more damage, sad pets did less. If a pet got annoyed enough it would stop being a pet and attack you.

Yes, WoW launched when the dominant MMO was Everquest, where most classes were unable to solo to max level. So the fact that it's possible was an incredible transformative improvement. But they didn't make it easy.

    - The base movement speed got increased during the xpacs. The normal run speed in true vanilla was actually slower
    - The reintroduction of the original attack table with all the negative aspects will also have an significant impact during both leveling and end game
    - The global cooldown was fixated and couldn't be lowered
    - Gold is actually a thing, most of you won't have enough gold...:
    - to buy the mount at 40
    - to buy the epic mount during the whole vanilla period
    - to respec twice a week
    - to buy new skills and ranks from the trainer immediately
    - The thicker the armour type, the higher the repair. Warrior tanks will face hard times again.
    - You will wait for mana.
    - You will wipe because of mana.
