doesn't need the shadow elements, we have enough shadow specs.
more warding, damage reduction, and other EH increasing effects would be better to contrast holy's big healing numbers.
penance over heals should build up a shield with a damage reduction modifier based on mastery.

The main theme of this spec as I see it is its versatility in utilizing the power of light and shadow to heal allies, protect them, and damage enemies. You can choose to specialize in any of those but at the end of the day you are a healer and you need to heal.

This concept seems really confused, even more so than the one we currently have. What's up with the 6 second Atonement? And since Penance channels for 2 seconds, it's basically only 4 second Atonement after triggering it. Why? The 15 seconds we have now already feel clunky as hell.

Not that it'll ever happen again, but why not just remove this 'Atonement is a buff' thing entirely and make some damaging spells heal players outright?

I completely agree with this, it's how it used to be back in Wrath which was awesome or make Atonement a cooldown to heal more, say you passively transfer 30% of all damage to healing at all times then you can pop Atonement and you then transfer 60% or 75% of your damage as healing for 15 seconds with a 2 or 3 minute CD or something.

That's not quite right. Penance deals damage to begin with so you don't really lose 2 seconds of Atonement. Also, it's 100% of the damage done instead of 60% AND your mastery increases your Holy damage done. It's immediate. You can quickly react to incoming damage, and you have 2 charges of Penance (3 talented) for more flexibility. It's a semi smart heal unlike the current version. And here you don't rely mostly on Atonement for healing. Your healing spells actually heal for a substantial amount and are not, as in the current implementation, mostly ways to apply Atonement.

Here you don't have to think much about and manage Atonement. Think of Penance as one of those damaging spells that heal players outright. You will already get plenty of healing out of one Penance. You need to heal 3 to 5 people? Then simply cast Penance and continue your normal dps rotation with Smite and Holy Fire if you like. Your tank is dipping low? Penance him/her for a powerful single target heal then continue with Shadow Mend or Smite if you like for a bit of group healing since you still have 4 seconds left of Atonement. Your raid takes damage? Cast 1-2 Radiance then continue with Penance if necessary. Nothing to do? Smite to increase the absorption of your next Power Word: Shield for when you need it.

I would not mind most of the suggested changes. If I could mess with it I would do something like this:

    Atonement
    - Power Word: Shield, Power Word Radiance both apply Atonement to their target(s) for 15 seconds.
    - If you Shadow Mend a target that has Atonement, Shadow Mend doesn't leave a dot but consumes the atonement instead. When it does it grants an absorb shield equal to the remaining time on atonement * 10% of the healing done by Shadow Mend.
    - When you deal damage to any target you heal all targets with Atonement for 45% spellpower.

    - Greater Atonement (when penance is used as a heal)
    - Penance grants a friendly target Greater Atonement for 9 seconds and you grand up to 3 injured allies Atonement for 9 seconds.
    - When you deal damage to any target you heal the target with Greater Atonement for 100% spellpower.

Confusion (when penance is used offensively)
    - Penance inflicts an enemy target with Confusion and it deals 10% less damage for 3 seconds to targets with your Atonement.
    - Damage reduction is increased by 10% for each active Atonement.

Pretty cool concept imo. I like current disc though so I'd prefer to stick with what we have. I think it's the most fun spec in the game. This is pretty cool though.

No to all. Disc is perfectly fine the way it is.
