The hunter hoe with the least beloe.
Honestly the best MMO time I ever had was in rift. Killing Akylios third on the realm. Farmin bis shit for the gem or w/e you had. Blastin people in WPVP.
Reason why i stopped playing was because nightmare tide was boring to play through combined with it copying aspects from other games but doing it worse..Thatw as what 4 or so years ago now? Time flys :S
Well the game had potential, but the developers and publisher made one big mistake, they wanted to fight with WoW and replicate it success. The developers and publishers must understand, WoW as an MMO was an exception, something that happens once, they got into the game in good moment and made a huge success. I think new MMO games, but to be honest i don't think we will see any western MMO anytime soon, should not aim to replicate the WoW success but make their own niche, make something unique and don't aim for 10mln subs, keep the expectations moderate and think realistically. I agree if they did B2P with cosmetic shop, basically if they replicated GW2 model, we probably would have a quite lively game. We can say a lot negatives about GW2 but even after last layoffs, GW2 is still a living MMO far from dead after 6 years from release.
As of topic, if the new publisher can revive RIFT....i really doubt. They would have to invest a lot of money into dead game, to basically do what Square Enix did with FF14, rework the game on the new engine because the one RIFT uses sucks, and republish the game with big marketing....but sadly ppl have a bad taste in mouth after the recent expansions to the game. So ye i really doubt this game will get any second wind, i would rather, if i was a RIFT player, prepared myself for the shutdown this or next year. Gamigo is not a charity organisation :P.
When You check Gamigo career offers, do You notice if there is any game dev position open ? :P

Classic RIFT I Thought was amazing. I didn't get in on it at first because I was still stuck on WoW but when I gave it a chance later it felt like a better WoW than WoW. I'm not sure where it went downhill, I thought Storm Legion lost a lot of the charm of the original, but man the classic game I felt was as perfect of an MMO as I've played. The original macro system I thought was amazing, having 6 (I think it was 6) slots so you could have a designated single target or AOE or farming spec was amazing, the story was pretty good, the dungeons were challenging but not too crazy. I never really got to do the raids but they seemed alright. The invasions/zone events were amazing.
I loved original Rift. I think what killed it fast for me was once they made it that you basically had to fully unlock 1 soul and just put random points in others to be effective. Since before they made the super over powered 61 point talents, you could split your points evenly over multiple souls for some awesome Hybrids.
A great video for those who have been out of the loop regarding Rift.
I quit Rift after playing through Storm Legion. I just lost interest in where the game was heading. It's a real shame though, Rift was a very good MMO and had tons of potential.
$99.99 for a loot box containing 1 of 42 mounts...? Oh how far the game has fallen.
I played Rift for a couple of years before it went f2p and I had a lot of fun. It had some issues though, the art direction I feel is an acquired taste, a mix of gothic, edgy and dark aspects. That's subjective of course, but it started to bother me eventually.
A bigger issue I think was that it wasn't very newbie friendly to get into. The soul system was amazing on the one hand but could be a nightmare for some new players trying to figure out what to pick. You could also quite easily die, and while that is exciting to some I'm sure it put some people off as well.
The group content also wasn't for everybody. There was no LFR like there is in Wow and that's something that killed my casual guild. We had a lot of trouble with the entry level raid.
But the biggest issue was that it tried to emulate WoW too much while still trying to be somewhat unique. Copying WoW never works, as history has shown, and trying to fill a niche in the mmo market can work, but won't give you big sub numbers. You have to chose as a developer.
They even had this tag line 'You're not in Azeroth anymore' in one of their ads.
Rift going f2p wasn't the reason that the game started dying, it started dying way before that. Going f2p was just a way to prolong the inevitable.
A sub based game doesn't go f2p if it's successful.
i remember playing it ages ago.. left when people started botting in pvp to grind points
It had a good run.
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.
Is Slipmat still arguing that the game is alive because when you log in you can find someone else?
Wasn't this the game that was like 'YOU'RE NOT IN AZEROTH ANYMORE' in the trailer? Or was that Aion?
I will always remember you Chloromancer!
