Or, we'll just keep using the bright, flashy, stars? I'm a Uranophile and I love the idea of Moon and Star powers but druids suits the nature magic better.
Thoughts? (Oh and I know about restoration, but I'm talking about the dps.)

You can lierally summon trees to fight for you, that should be enough 'nature magic'.
When did balance druids stop using nature magic as dps? Next expansion?
Is Wrath no longer considered Nature damage? You're right though, over the years we've lost Hurricane, Faerie Fire, and Insect Swarm and gained more moon/lunar themed spells instead. I personally miss Hurricane though mostly for those moments when you're just standing around in raid waiting for people to get back/buffed and everyone spammed it together for the hell of it.
"lorewise" They use Astral and Cosmic magic nowadays. It seems they made Nature Magic mostly Healing/Chi type magic. Their spells are kept Arcane/Nature though likely to avoid just having to add new magic types into the game with the exception of Starsurge/fall being "Astral". which I think is just a combo of Nature and Arcane and the game uses whichever has the better resist chance when applying damage.

next thing you know..blizz will fix dk spells to resemble paladin spells. I don't know who's bright idea it was to remove nature based dmg spells from balance druids. The druid hatred at blizzard is real..
The hunter hoe with the least beloe.
I don't mind the Lunar/Solar lightshow that Balance has going on but I can see the appeal for more "grounded" nature spells. If not Balance, maybe Resto could get something like Insect Swarm and Hurricane back to make their damage suite the more "nature"-themed kit.
Well.. Solar Wrath and Sunfire is nature damage, but I understand what you mean.
But Balance Druids fantasy is "Balance" between sun and moon and between the nature.
I'd guess it'll be split into its own spec if they ever go the route of doing new ones. Certainly room for it.
I miss it as well, but I get the reason they have been given this change. The idea is that balance druid is using the greater aspects of natural balance, being the sun and the moon, both of which have an immense impact on the world.
Still, I wish we would have been given a more “down-to-earth” magic, such as insect swarm was. I imagive the spells that call on roots to do actual damage and summoning animals in a similar way demonology warlocks do with their demons these days.
I know what do you mean OP. While the Balance theme is nice and unique, a more traditional druid magic like a "woods" magic, evolving plants/trees/insects/animals would be more appealing to me.
Don't get me wrong my soon to be Zandalari Druid suits the theme of Star Magic really well, because I associate it to the Mayan excellence in astronomy.
But a classic is a classic for a reason

I'm talking about the classic fantasy of the druid that was introduced with DnD and any other fantasy medium since the 70s/80s, which is exactly what I explained. I have never found one person in any fantasy group talking about druids and mentioning astrological themes as their main theme. They all instead talk about flora, fauna or even the elements, and I've discused this with ages from 18 to 40.

They seem more like they're using Asterokinesis rather than nature magic which is odd for a class which supposedly prides itself on nature magic. It just feels like they missed an opportunity to have druids use the traditional nature aspects like thorns, vine whips, bugs, etc to deal damage.
