Using that logic though the game is already down the toilet. Because they have been selling things for years. Eventually you will be right but it is down right dumb to just say "well in the future it could be worse!". Sure it could be. That still doesn't change that the present isn't bad. There is nothing greedy about what they are doing right now. It is actually the opposite of greedy because they are giving away a percentage of sales instead of keeping 100% of the sales for themselves.

Giving away money is now the slippery slope to being greedy. That is how toxic and twisted the WoW haters have become.

Cash Shops are just sub fees in disguise. There really is nothing different from pay $15 a month to paying $15 in the cash shop to by the month's latest skin/boost/etc.

Except the announcement has no indication of cutting costs. It doesn't say the prize pool will be lower with the difference made up by player purchases. It doesn't say we are defunding WoW esports so players need to fund it now. That is all being inferred by people who are looking for any reason to hate on Blizzard. This actually shows less greedy because Blizzard is giving away money to the winners of WoW esports.

Instead of keeping the prize pool the same and pocketing 100% of the sales of the new toys. People see what they want to see. And the people against this just want to see hate.

This is deeply irrational. You have no basis whatsoever to conclude anything you've concluded. They could have developed the pet sales as a cost cutting measure, or they could have developed the pet sale as a totally optional funds boosting measure. It's impossible to tell to a certainty with the information availabe.

The point of the post is that given their recent history, you have justifiable reason to speculate in the negative. You provide no argument that this speculation isn't exactly 100% as justifiable as your speculation that it's just another funding mechanism they've thought up.

The facts don't even come close to presenting as concrete a picture as you present, and yet, you insult people for not speculating in the same direction that you have.

You consider it deeply irrational to say that someone isn't greedy for giving away a percentage of the money they make off an item? Seriously. If hatred towards Blizzard is corrupting your reasoning that much you need to to take a step back and go find a better track for your life. It is not speculation that this is another funding mechanicsm they thought up because that is exactly what it is.

They are increasing the prize pool by diverting a % of the sales into the pool. That is funding. They are giving up money that they could invest into the company to a select few players. That isn't being greedy.

It is deeply irrational to argue that they are greedy, cutting esport funding, or anything else negative based off of the information released. You only want to see hate so that is all you see.

I don't think blizz needs us to tell us about this, it's company business.

If it's 95% then buying the item truly supports esports. If it's 5% then it's just a scummy marketing trick to shovel Blizz more profit. I think the % definitely matters.

If it makes the prize pool bigger and more ppl play, I guess you have no choice as it's a net gain for the game and playerbase.
Content drought is a combination of catchup mechanics and no new content.

That isn't even possible to do yet you want Blizzard to do it just because you want to hate on them.

"Blizzard should explain the situation and plan, months ahead of time perhaps even years.. allow one prize pool at least to go down to a reduced level in order to show where blizzard is willing to put in.. and then fans can decide beyond that point."

That is the right thing to do, considering how different it is for "Wow fans" its not too much to ask that Blizzard starts talking to its playerbase about long term plans before they just roll them out, fanboys are gonna defend it no matter what they do.. but the lack of telling us everything still happens.. azerite powers nerfed this week in pvp wasn't listed which just puts another "they don't bother talking to us" tick on the checklist.

You also should want Blizzard to talk to its playerbase before it rolls out changes like this also.
Dragonflight Nerfs vs fun again show a Blizzard that hasn't learnt a lesson, Actions speak louder than words afterall watch what they do and do not do.

So blizzard can only increase the prize pool by first reducing it to ask permission? They have to wait years in order to do something because they need players permission? No prize pool is currently being reduced and yet you say the only way they can do this the right way is to actually reduce the prize pool. They already annouced it months ahead because they toys are not released yet and the prize pool it is increasing isn't given away until later in the year.

And yet months ahead of time isn't a good enough way to do it despite you just saying it is. Why do WoW players have to be treated like special snow flakes? Why do they need to talk to players to roll out a change that increases money given away? This literally has no impact on game play, game design, or anything. Seriously. Before accusing someone of having a learning disability you should actually think about what you are saying.

Giving away more money as prizes is not greed any way you cut it. They could have easily released new toys with out giving any money away. If they followed your advice every charity pet would need to be discussed years in advance before being released and by that time the cause it is designed for won't need it anymore.

That it is an opinion does not make it incorrect. Games start dying before they become unprofitable. He could be right or he could be wrong, but that it is his opinion does not say anything relevant about its accuracy. If you want to contest his position, you have to actually contest his position, rather than just point out that it is his position and pretend that means something.
I did. Game is profitable. It's not dying other than regular game age. I actually presented facts. ALl you did is say "I hate something that is being implemented, therefore it is dying. You didn't even present any facts. Just your bias. Again, one not liking a game or something does in no way = game is dying.

    My problem with this is...
Blizzard designs and turns certain game elements into esports, that get shittier in the retail game for the average players: mythics in bfa vs. mythics in legion for example.
Then they want the players, who are the "losers" of this deal to pay for (some of) the esport event.
The second problem is that if blizzard had to pay for all of this from their pocket from box sales and sub fees and what not, that would mean they would have to create a good game where players keep their subs up etc.
With putting this on the players' shoulders, they are basically free to create whatever shit game they want, the ones who buy the toy are the "nevergonnaquit" people anyways. Probably. So they pay for the box, the sub, the store stuff, and now for the esports event that keep the boat afloat.
What we are seeing is jut more and more cost alleviation that lands on the loyal customers' shoulders.

Nothing is put on player shoulders. Seriously what announcement did you read? They are increasing the prize pool based on sales of certain items. Blizzard is giving away money instead of keeping it. They could put 0% of sales into players hands. Why is it a bad thing that Blizzard is telling us what % they are actually devoting to e-sports. You do know that they already funded esports through all other monetary transactions? Because they don't just create money out of thin air.
