    Question Gateway error

Hello fellow geeks and hopefully computer geeks (since you're reading the computer section of this site). I keep having a problem with my connection to the internet and it is really starting to piss me off and get annoying. I'm using a network adapter (I think that's what they're called) to connect to the WiFi in the other room. My boyfriend who is about 10 feet from me has no issues with his connections. I've tried using his adapter and nothing changes. I get lag spikes every so often and at least every 30-45 minutes my connection just completely cuts off. I'll be kicked offline or a webpage won't load. I'll look at my WiFi connection and it'll say I'm still "connected, open" under the connection but after about a minute I get the "offline, open" or whatever it says. I then open my Network & Internet Settings and troubleshoot it. The image above is what it does every single time I've been kicked offline. From the looks of it, it looks like a gateway error somewhere but I don't even have a clue what that means. I'm using Windows 10 Pro if that helps or clarifies anything.

Anyone able to figure this out for me & tell me not only what is going on but how to fix it so I'm able to have a more stable connection? Much appreciated for any help you can provide.

My first concern is that its ays "Connected, Open" and "Offline, Open". The Open being the concerning part. That sounds a lot like your wifi has no password on it. While not your issue really, I'd definitely secure it just on principle.

That said, can you post full IP Config info? I'm mostly interested in IP4 address, gateway, and DNS

The open part refers to I'm using the Xfinity password required WiFi instead of my landlord's WiFi because she's a bitch that has accused my boyfriend & I of using ALL of her data plan (long story I don't want to get into but she's not only a liar but a huge bitch). My boyfriend and I pay $10 a month to have access to all of Xfinity's hotspots. That means we can use her router without using her WiFi plan. But here is the info you asked for:

This is probably the first thing I notice. We'll want to get the DNS changed off of Xfinity/Comcast probably. I would use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Secondly, and this may or may not be related, your IP address isn't on the same subnet as the DHCP.

I'm assuming you own the router and modem, and it isn't some shared thing where multiple residents/buildings use it. First thing I'd try is simply setting your IP to something like 10.224.0.100 (Or anything 10.224.0.xxx where xxx is anywhere from 2-253)
Ignore this part, I want to keep it present but I don't think it's relevant to timeouts. If you were having subnet/IP address issues, you probably just wouldn't have internet, rather than timeouts.

How do I do that? I'm needing to use the Xfinity WiFi hotspot they have. I don't know how to change settings and stuff either.

That's really a bad way to get internet. Not only is it unreliable but you have no control over the access point. What I mean is your landlord could buy their own cable modem or change providers altogether and you would have no service.

Don't get me wrong that price sounds excelent but at the end of the day you're just exploiting a loop hole and paying for it by getting craptastic service. I say this because those wifi hotspot services were never intended to be full time replacements for wired or even fixed wireless services.

Yeah, I must have missed the hotspot part somehow. Those things are trash, straight up. I wish I had seen that earlier, because I would have just told you to get your own internet plan if you can.
