The two candidates we've heard of so far both sound like good options. Really it feels like the only way the Jets could mess this hire up is if they decide to just let Gase keep the power.

Of course nailing this hire doesn't guarantee the Jets don't stay an irrelevant laughing stock even with Darnold. Gase washed out of Miami, is paired up with a DC that apparently already has friction with him, and there's a chance in 2 years the team has "new" (it's actually old coming back from the UK but whatever) ownership that might decide to sweep out everyone and hire a recently-fired Jon Gruden.

Peterson was probably just getting high to cope with playing on a Vance Joseph defense.

I have seen some people connecting Denver's pro personnel guy to the Jets, but I'm not sure Gase would want to work with Elway's drinking buddy so probably not legit.

Mark Davis can't afford to fire Gruden, that's not metaphorical, he literally could not afford to pay off the rest of the contract.

Nobody mentioned it, but DE Chris Long retired over the week-end. Nice career in the end, with 2 Superbowl wins and a Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Favourite moments were his game-sealing strip sack against the Jets and the holding penalty he drew in the Superbowl that knocked the Falcons out of FG position, that proved crucial later.

Sheesh. Year has barely gotten underway with OTA's and Washington has it's first major injury of the year. They were decimated by injuries last year too.

Bad news for Reuben Foster, who knows what stupid shit he'll do now that he doesn't have football to occupy his time.

Bucs release Gerald McCoy, weird to think that he and Suh are currently jobless.

Doubt McCoy is jobless for long. Word all offseason has been he ends up in Cleveland. Though he probably loses a lot of money this way.

Would not surprise me AT ALL, if the Bucs decide to fill the hole in their front seven that McCoy left, by signing Suh to a much smaller deal than the 13M that McCoy was due.

Depends on if Suh wants to play for money or for glory though, cause with the Bucs it's very much unlikely that there will be any glory to speak of. Then again, how much choice does Suh have? it's late in May and he's not signed yet.

"Veteran OT Jared Veldheer has informed the Patriots that he plans to retire, per a source." - Mike Reiss

Welp, dude beat Reggie Wayne for shortest Patriots career ever. Tough break cause he was likely to be the top swing tackle and possible starter if the top option (Isiah Wynn) wasn;t back yet for training camp/season.

Patriots almost surely signing new tackle depth now.

No return to Oakland for Jared then, pity as he played his best football there.

    "Future NFL Draft sites:

    2020: Las Vegas
    2021: Cleveland
    2022: TBD
2023: Kansas City." - Schefter (and everyone else)

Interesting slate. Cleveland and KC both loyal cities in cold weather areas that would never get to host a Superbowl, but get a bone thrown their way in this fashion. Wonder if that means that Boston/Foxborough would get a chance too in the future.

Even more interesting is the 2022 one. Why is that one not announced? Are they planning something extraordinary, like holding the Draft in Mexico or London or is it just that the plans with the city they had in mind in the first place fell through and they haven't found a replacement yet?

    Very curious.

I was already planning on a trip to Vegas next Spring. The draft could be an interesting time to do it...

Chatter here is 2022 is probably Green Bay, but the NFL is waiting to be sure the new Brown County Expo Center is going to be done. It's currently scheduled to be done in 21.

Why not? You have really passionate fans, and the Northwest typically gets overlooked for events, I think you would be a great place for a draft. Or is it a money issue?

Predictably, every city is now rumoured to be in the running for that 2022 spot. Boston is too. They better announce something soon before the rumour mill builds up impossible hopes in some fan bases and it gets to be a bitter disappointment when they don't get it.

It's easier to deal with not getting something when you haven't gotten your hopes up yet.

Bart Starr passed away. One of the players who made the NFL what it is. RIP.

    - - - Updated - - -

"Bart Starr's postseason stats are, for their era, absolutely amazing. 8.2 yards per pass, 15 TDs, 3 INTs, and a 9-1 record in his 10 postseason games. This was in the 1960s, when the typical TD:INT ratio was about 1:1 and QBs averaged a little over 6 yards per pass." - Michael David Smith

Patriots TE Ben Watson suspended for the first 4 games of the 2019 season. He was prescribed something and pissed hot while retired, before deciding to come back, at which point the league informed him he had failed a test. Teams were aware of his suspension before he ever signed with a team though, so the Patriots knew and still signed him.

    Raiders signed Richie Incognito.

I'm not sure playing football is a good idea for someone that clearly has mental problems. He will probably just end up trying to fight Tom Cable, so might not happen anyway.
