    R. Kelly Charged with multiple sex crimes

A Cook County judge has approved a no-bail arrest warrant for embattled R&B superstar R. Kelly, who was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving four victims, at least three of them minors, Friday morning, records show.

Prosecutors allege the abuse happened in instances from 1998 to 2010, records show. The minors were between 13 and 16, prosecutors allege.

In a brief news conference Friday, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx briefly went through the charges and noted that Kelly was expected to appear at a bond hearing Saturday. Each count is a Class 2 felony, which can be punished by three to seven years in prison or as little as probation. Foxx answered no questions.

Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, said early Friday afternoon before the news conference that he had not been notified that his client had been charged. Greenberg has said in the past that his client denies any wrongdoing.

Kelly has been dogged by allegations of sexual impropriety for two decades. The indictment on Friday marks the first time he has been charged with any crimes since he was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008 in a case that received international attention.

Cook County prosecutors appeared before Judge Dennis Porter Friday, who approved the warrant for Kelly, records show.

Michael Avenatti, a well known attorney who said he recently provided a videotape of R. Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old girl to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, applauded prosecutors for filing charges. It is unclear if the charges are related to the videotape the attorney provided.

“The day of reckoning has arrived” for R Kelly, Avenatti said in a tweet.

The new charges against Kelly, 51, come less than two months after Foxx made a public plea for new Kelly accusers to come forward so that the office could investigate. Foxx said she was “sickened” by the accounts described in the “Surviving R. Kelly” Lifetime television series. The Sun-Times reported that at least two women came forward after Foxx made her plea.

A Sun-Times reporter told one of the women of Kelly’s criminal charges Friday afternoon, to which she replied: “Awesome. Thank God. That’s a blessing. I’m so happy.”

Several media outlets have reported that Kelly is also under federal investigation

Its a shame it took so long and a TV series to get him. Hope justice finds his ass this time around.

    Money.

He beat his previous case by paying off the family, allegedly. Officially no one would testify against him. After that he got smarter and moved his 'operation' underground. Pay off the right people abd and no one can come around asking questions.

Good shit, I feel like this has been one of the most open secrets for like, I dunno, 15+ years? Shit, Boondocks was making fun of R. Kelly and the justice system over this shit way back when that was airing on TV.

Glad he won't be able to abuse any more girls, or apparently boys too, and I genuinely hope he gets the help he needs to like, stop peeing on minors and whatever else he was doing. I'm too grossed out to read the specifics this time around, I'd honestly completely forgotten he went to trial.

15? Nearly 30. Remember he married a singer when she was 15. The man is a monster and deserves jail. But why is it that society allow his type of deviant behavior to fester until lives are ruined. His grooming of Aalyiah was public (from what I understand, not my time). He had an extensive network of people who aided or knew what he was doing - some of who I don't blame like people who were aware but separated themselves from him, because it seems like calling him out went nowhere. There's something in society that allows these serial predators like Kelly to thrive and it's not just ones love of music. There was a time period where R Kelly was everywhere. Absolutely everywhere in the media. He isn't a very smart man, he did what he did because he was enabled and I really think part of him thought he was 'allowed' to do SOME of the things because of his status, in a gross sociopathic way. He could have been helped or removed from his victims, it didn't have to get so bad. Reminds me of the gymnastics scandal. And how these smaller networks spiral into one's almost too big to deal with like Epstein's.

Lets hope the case was clean and he remains behind bars. He'll be singing to no one but the inmates.

I vaguely recall the Aalyiah stuff but that wasn't really my world at the time so never knew too much. I just remember the fuckin pee tapes and being depressed that, once again, it seems that money (and a little celebrity) was all that was needed to get away with some truly heinous shit.

Rich people get away with all kinds of gross-ass shit and frequently surround themselves with enablers, especially celebrities. It's just a shame that "open secrets" like this fester as long as they do and do real harm to people.

But hey, that Trapped in the Closet shit he did was...uh...some music I guess. And people liked it apparently. Cool, cool, cool.

"I Believe I Can Fly" play ad nauseum at graduations.

"Ignition (Remix)" Heavy rotation at clubs, bars, frat clubs, cookouts, wherever people got drunk and played top 40 music. For almost 2 decades.

I didn't know a lot of people knew him for Trapped in the Closet saga. Songs most people probably know are/

"Step in the Name of Love" One of the most played songs at wedding reception.
