Worldbosses could also be a pain, but the way the system worked was alos part of the experience, as getting the tag and the kill was a challenge on it's own.
haha ah ye man, those kidneys from pigs in westfall. 1/15 to drop. Or even better, brains! Like, how the fuck does it not drop a brain?
None of us really changes over time. We only become more fully what we are.

Lots of things that people have mentioned often. One thing that has not been brought up a lot (that I have read): Escort Quests.

In their Vanilla/BC form, escort quests were abhorrent. Usually, they involved escorting a single, extremely fragile NPC. You could not do them if someone had started them already (had to wait for them to fail or finish). If you were in a group but did not get the quest before someone started it you were out of luck (such as in that one quillboar instance), so no joining in the middle. Usually involved large waves of enemies which I only had the ability to handle on certain classes without either myself or the escort dying.

Classes being restricted to one or two viable builds (And usually only one role) across all three specs plus the lack of Horde Paladins and Blood Elves in general (The Ghostlands were a godsend for leveling too).

Class design in general was pretty bad back then and it's why I'd rather wait for TBC servers.

Organizing 40 people was like herding cats. The fights themselves were a bit easier to understand by today's standards. But there was still a lot of mechanics to understand it took guilds months of raiding not weeks to progress through them and the original Naxx was so difficult that hardly any guilds cleared it before it was removed.

But my view might be tainted by being the GM of a guild that was pushing these raids in a race to be server first. Which meant something back then. At least for being able to recruit.

But yea ... feeding the pet to keep it happy drove many a Hunter insane

Now you've conjured the image of a quest "thin the population of MMO posters, bring me brains as proof" and after fifty kills and only two drops you think "well... actually expected."

I used to rationalise that when a heart or brain didn't drop it was because I'd obliterated it with a devastating blow and it was my fault for being such a bad ass lvl 14 prot warrior in mostly grey items.

Hard to tell, there is a neverending stream of people holding this reasoning quite seriously.

i didn't like the class balance in vanilla; i think rogues should be able to take on at least three players in pvp. that seems balanced in pvp play. with more kills solo.

I think that's what the 4 dots at the end were indicating

This. when i saw "broken antlers" instead of "pristine antlers" the quest required, i had the idea i hit the mob to hard, so i broke the antlers.

    rpg immersion at its best.

    Organizing 40 people ain't hard.

I was GM on several private projects, and with good class leaders it's quite easy and simple if people follow the rules and doing what they are told.

    Bring forth Classic already!
From all things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

When people say lack of quest, does that mean you were too lazy to travel to another continent's zone at the appropriate level? Y'all are caught up with min maxing and it shows
Whether the world's greatest gnats, or the world's greats heroes, you're still only mortal!

    Horrible spec balance
No QOL changes (mounts in bags, obnoctious reagents, ect.. )

Respec costs. I was pretty much forced to play Disc/Holy for 9 months until whatever patch hit the server and let me reset talents for free. Made it impossible for healers to farm stuff easily on their own, or just like, you know, play the game in a different way.

Pure lies, gear was far more important than talents. You just needed to collect a set of +damage gear instead of +healing gear and you could farm anything arguably more efficiently than pure dps specs.
