Why spend any amount of money on that? Re-releasing as F2P without any work would be completely pointless, and based on the results and reputation (and Sony's fairly minimal investment in the product beyond buying the studio) what would be the point? Invest in a re-release, release it again, nobody plays it for a second time and they leave servers on for a while to...?
Invest more into the game to try to recoup costs? Again, a F2P re-release wouldn't just be re-shipping the exact same build just without the cost, and even that has costs associated with it (people need to spend the time setting it all up, getting servers back online etc.) that wouldn't be worth the wait.
F2P games aren't like...free for the people making and hosting them, yo.
The problem is that there's already better F2P games of that genre that people have been playing for years, and already like. It would be like putting out a worse version of League of Legends, charging for it, nobody wanting to play it because it was worse in almost every way, then thinking that all it really needs is a bit more TLC and some more time to bake.
People were laughing at the characters. Honestly, they looked very boring. People thought the gameplay was weaker than competitors who already have loyal fans.
This isn't a case of Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky, where they made a butt load of money, and decided to spend that money to fix their games. They made no money, and there's no indication that spending millions to fix/update it will make them more.
The only major costs Sony has with the game is acquiring the studio, and they can recoup those costs by having them support development on other games.
Sony has no intention of sinking money into concord, I don't know how this isn't obvious to you after they spent almost no money marketing it.
Not only that, we already know what would be the hype for free to play concord. It was called the free beta, It still did not reach 1000 concurrent players on steam while free to try?
Man that Concord episode of Secret Level is gonna be interesting. Considering how little Sony supported the game it's weird that this is one of the IPs getting represented in the show.
That's not what I said.
My argument is that live service is an oversaturated market where most people who want to play them already are playing the one they want to.
Very few, but that isn't what I said either. I said people aren't leaving the game they are playing now for a new game unless that game has something to pull them from the game they are already playing. People who want to play Live Service games are already playing Live Service games for the most part. How many times do you see someone be like "instead of enjoying what's out now im going to adopt a mindset where I'm holding out for a mythical game in the future"?
Developers are making live service games assuming there are people just waiting for the right game, rather than the reality that people who want to play live service games generally are already playing them and people only have so much time. A person who sunk hours of time and money into a game like Overwatch isn't going quit it because a game that looks like Overwatch Diet comes out.
The market is full of live service games. Most of them die because the market is saturated. Games that are having success aren't pushing into that market.

Peace is a lie. There is only passion. Through passion I gain strength. Through strength I gain power.
Through power I gain victory. Through victory my chains are broken. The Force shall set me free.

Yes, YES, YES, yes.
I guessed 96 on another forum. I was 2-3 points off depending on how it settles.
I still got it baby! I AM THE MICROCOSM!
GotY contender?
Nah son, this is guaranteed game of the fucking year. Guaranteed.
Bwahahaha. I think the rumors of Sony's demise were greatly exaggerated. Fuck yes, let this wash over me.

Let's talk about this monster here. This goty PS5 exclusive right here. OMG!
Every once in a while you get that game, usually from Nintendo, that cuts thru the AA mire of bullshit we have to put up with. Well ladies and gentlemen, this is that game.
Know how I know?
I played their previous games and I can recognize genius when I see it. Go look at early BG3<edit> (I remove this cuz other poster says I can get "weird," it's true, so I'll try to stop the rambling, haha)
edit 2, continues rant:
1. This proves there is no Nintendo or Xbox or Playstation tax, games are games and they are judged equally
2. This proves(to me) that everyone who said number 1 before didn't really know what a good 3d platformer actually was, but they will now. This will actually expand the genre and help Nintendo too. High tide raises all boats, and this is gonna be the biggest and best 3d platformer besides Mario now.
3. Sony finally has a mascot worthy of Mario and Sonic

Dude i think you need to take a chill pill! I hardly followed any of that
Rumors of Sony's demise? Who thought that? Not a single non Xbox-fanboy ever thought that Sony would be close to a demise
But yeah Astro seems really great and most people already knew / thought that from all the previews.
Didn't you hear? Sony is doomed because of concord, a game they only owned for the final year of it's development and didn't have much to do with lol.
Sony daring to publish live service games also means they will never make a good single player game ever again! It's not the fact these games take like 5+ years to make or anything and most of their big studios released games late in the PS4 gen or anything yo.
Sony is for sure doomed, PS5 only already the most profitable gen for them as of like a year ago.
It's all good. I'm actually totally chill. I shouldn't precounter arguments but yes there was some pretty bad Sony hate going on after Concord. I sometimes forget the FUD I'm fed isn't really mainstream FUD.
It is of course, ridiculous, and gone this morning after the astrobot win.
I highly suggest the eurogamer review:
https://www.eurogamer.net/astro-bot-review
It actually implies that this game embraces not just Sony's history but also the history of the platformer, Nintendo included even. That's pretty awesome. I think this game is going to be ELITE and I preordered it this morning. I believe this is going to be one of my favorite games ever. I'm that hyped.

That is true but can creep into mainstream press, it is hard to avoid without avoiding basically the community. Like this review here:

If you see those last 2 paragraphs, that is the FUD from reddit just spread out in a more palatable format.

Considering latest events I wonder what fate awaits this, erm, "potential gem":
