Prohabition never works. And what's wrong in it? I have seen all kinds of porn, never made me feel bad about woman or anything else. People with their fake moraility pass. Morality is something that can not be verbalised. This is just again another hypocritical thing they want to force on the people. Because they 'think' you cannot choose for yourself. Freedom leads to intelligence. Never supression because it's always based on an idea. And ideas are nothing but memory which is based on the past... the ego. Do this, don't do that. It's limited. When will people wake up? Society is based on conflict. We humans are divided in countries, beliefs, ideas, families.... Everyone is caught in their own mental prison. Infact we are the prison. Aslong humans are divided we will destroy ourselves, the planet will be fine.

And if you want to watch porn, just fricking do it without a sense of guilt. That guilt has been put into you!

The internet is for porn? So they ban the internet?

Trying to control internet is a dumb idea in general. That includes porn control. Unless you want to survey entire country's traffic, ban all VPN and destroy privacy at the same time, there is hardly anything that can be done. Even in totalitarian internet environments (e.g. Kuwait) one can easily gain access to anything, even without the use of VPN. The only possible solution for porn control is a list of approved sites while everything else (including VPN and redirect services) gets blocked. And that is some crazy ass totalitarian "V for Vendetta" scenario.
Also, it is moronic to ban porn for underage children. First of all, they are going to find it anyway. Secondly, they have access to worse things than that. Think along the lines of news archives, with unedited clips of people being executed on camera. Third, while looking for the former, they might find the latter. If you want to try experimenting with internet control, start with the gruesome head chopping shit that is sitting there almost in the open.

there's no way to actually enforce that in the US, despite it being the law. but the UK lacks the privacy guarantees that the US has, so i'm sure they'll happily walk over their people's rights to do it.

but it is strange though, how the more left leaning the ideologue, the more puritanical they become. ban porn, women must be basically in burkas in video games, women must be ugly in games.

Kids will start sharing USB drives or clouds with porn content.

The porn black market reaches all ages.

Although I do agree with the ban. A child of 3-10 should not have access to porn.

The myriad of mental health and esteem issues that develop into long term psychological issues from unfettered access to hardcore pornography are already well documented. Use Google and educate yourself.

This isn;t banning. This is enforcing the already existing age restriction. Try and keep up, I know it is hard us using big words and all, but please try.

If they are not taking credit cards, what can the UK do? Pretty much nothing but force ISP's to search and block. Media sharing though? Nah sorry, UK is not extraditing people that don't have the same law in their country.
Then no-one gets extradited. Not sure why you are making such strawman's here and trying to escalate the situation into more than it is. If the porn sites decide not to cooperate, then the ISP will recieve a court order to blanket ban them from that ISP. Whether that remains profitable for them or not, is up to them. Quite simple, really.

Again, as I said, people are *really* overthinking it.

Amusingly enough, the "Mah freedomz brigade" seem to suggest otherwise at times.

The issue with this research is confirmation bias. I clicked Wikipedia and this is the first part about methodology there:
    Issues with research
    Edit
Within the field of pornography research, there are many challenges that arise due to strong opinions and feelings on the topic. Confirmation bias is prevalent due to societal taboos surrounding pornography. While many studies hypothesize about and study negative effects of pornography, few researchers explore potential benefits or positive aspects of pornography. A large percentage of studies suffer from methodological issues. In one meta-study by researchers at Middlesex University in England, over 40,000 papers and articles were submitted to the team for review and 276 or 0.69% were suitable for consideration due to the low quality of research within the field.
Too much of this research is tied to biased religious ideas. Hell the first link on googling it was maripedia which seems to be site promoting religion. Good luck finding good unbiased studies on this.

Personally I think there's absolutely no reason to ban pornography to those above age of consent which is 16 commonly. Being able to have sex but not watch it is just fucking ridiculous. You could suggest it gives unrealistic expectations to people, but why does this shit apply only to porn and not other things such as movies. Clearly Harry Potter, and other fantasy movies should be for adults as well since they can't tell the difference. Sarcasm aside , schools should teach sexual education properly rather than avoiding the issue, porn included.

Sorry, but just no. This is absolute bullshit.

None of us are suggesting that children should have access to this material. What we are saying is that it should be for to the parents and schools to, oh I don't know?, do their fucking jobs and protect their kids.

The state shouldn't be forcing ISPs to block stuff simply because the parents are braindead morons who don't monitor their children.

    Except they are.
And they have had unfettered access for 20 years or so, and nothing has been done. Or do you want them to wait another 50 years? And yes, some people here *are* suggesting that all material should be available because, ya know, it's only nekkid bodies.

    Such a silly argument tbh.

The main discussion point is that the content is age restricted to 18, yet people under 18 have totally unrestricted access to it. Not sure where people are ranting about it the other way tbh.

As for the age of 16 thing? I agree utterly. You can join the army in the UK at 16 (with parental permission), get married, have kids. Yet aren;t old enough to smoke, watch porn and drink, or vote for the country you can die for? That is ludicrous, but the law is what it is.

Again, this isn;t punishing people, this is just enforcing an already existing law and making companies not be able to skirt around it with bullshit, and be actually cukpable for the product they are providing.

Not sure how that can be explained any other way. ANyways, not going to reply anymore, because it is a fruitless and pointless debate, it will just go around and around and around.

The law is coming, and if you don't live in the UK, and aren't under 18, it literally will not affect you beyond minor inconvenience. But people love to be paranoid, and find outrage I guess.

This is naive thinking. The goal is to prevent people under 18 from getting to these sites. However this affects everyone who wishes to view porn. You think people are going to willingly give their private info to be stored in a location that will most definitely be hacked and be released?

    See point above.
Kara Swisher: What do you think about Cory Booker saying kick them in the shins?
Hillary Clinton: Well, that was Eric Holder.
Kara Swisher: Eric Holder, oh, Eric Holder, sorry.
Hillary Clinton: Yeah, I know they all look alike.

jesus christ, the amount of times you’ve felt compelled to say “it’s just enforcing an existing law” is astounding. literally nobody does not understand this and you just keep parroting it like you’re providing some sort of interesting insight.

    Well they are insane.

Children that are not sexually mature yet should not watch pornographic content.

It warps their perception of intimacy and sex.

Preventing kids under 15/16 from watching that kind of stuff is probably a good thing. But I would like to point out that if someone under the age of 18 really wants to watch porn that badly they will either find a way around it, cause kids always do, or they will simply have someone go to the newsagent and buy a pass for them. also, how rigorous are the questions for those in the database (which I presume they are getting from the UK version of the DMV)? will they ask some sort of secret question? or a pin? if it's a question then all you need is an older sibling who will give you the answer.

I am not sure if they answered this in the article as I couldn't read it
