Epic's exclusive Acquisition continues... Rocket League is next.

    https://www.rocketleague.com/news/ps...-epic-family-/

Today is a big day for us here at Psyonix because, just as the headline says, we’re officially joining the Epic Games family.

Your first question to news like this might be, "What does this mean for Rocket League and its community?" We’re happy to say that the answers are only positive. Rocket League always has been and always will be a community-driven game, and now that we have joined forces with Epic, we will be able to serve our community in even bigger and better ways!
So not only are they going after games that aren't out yet. They will outright buy games off steam for their store. This isn't competition. This is strong arming.

Uhh, they didn't buy it as an exclusive they literally bought the studio? If I'm reading that right this is a pretty bad post. Shocker, big company buys smaller successful company in same field as them. MS has literally bought like what 4 studios in the past year and Epic is bad guys for doing it now?

Two things. First, it sounds like they purchased Psyonix, not specifically Rocket League and second, nowhere does it say they are going to remove the game from Steam. It wouldn't benefit them in the least to do so. So from the sounds of it, you will still be able to play the game exactly as it right now. The only thing that will change you will also shortly be able to purchase the game off of the Epic store as well and considering the fact that the game is already has cross-platform play, this will likely only add to the overall player count.

Thats just... capitalism? X has money, Y has lot of potential, X spend his money to acquire Y. Nothing new here.

They bought a studio that they have worked with in the past before. A studio that does stuff that would be useful for them now. That isn't strong arming. It is just business. Rocket league is a by product of them purchasing the studio. Which is a a given and non news. Of course their own studios will publish exclusively on their store front. Do you also complain that Steam hasn't release their games on battle.net? Steam has "bought" several studios/things and made them steam exclusives. Team Fortress and Dota started as mods that were bought by Steam to have the exclusive rights for.

People who have no idea about business should stay out of things like this.

I thought the entire argument these people hung on was "Epic is buying exclusives to games they don't make!" Well now they make Rocket League, and people are already mad that it might be taken off steam(with no plans to officially do so yet).

Sweeney pretty much stays winning living rent free in these people's heads.

Tim Sweeney is obsessed with putting Epic store on top. How am I a dolt?

You think his master plan for digital store front dominance is buying the developer of Rocket League? LMFAO. It's called business. Company X is larger then Company Y. Both make games, Company Y makes a game Company X likes, Company Y buys Company X. This is literally the entire history of gaming. Valve, EA, Nintendo, Sony, MS, Activision, WB, Square Enix and Bamco have literally all done this. It's called acquiring studios and building up your portfolio.

So...this is news worthy why? It's not like they can magically make Rocket League poof off of Steam. They're buying a developer with talent. Sounds like a smart investment to me.

At least it wasn't EA. I think we should see what this brings. Yeah Epic Games is doing some Exclusives with their store and such but.....let's not say stuff that hasn't been made true j ust yet.

It has been confirmed that it's being removed off steam by the end of the year. So if they buy the rights to a game it will be removed.

It sounds very much like that is the plan:
"The PC version of Rocket League will come to the Epic Games store in late 2019. In the meantime, it will continue to be available for purchase on Steam; thereafter it will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing purchasers."

It will be moved off of the store. But it will still be supported on Steam for anyone that has bought it from Steam. Why are you surprised that a company that has their own store wants to move it off of another companies store? What business school did you go to that taught you selling something on another store that takes a cut is better then selling your product at your own store where no one takes a cut.

It actually hasn't been confirmed at all.

Also when/if it happens so what? You can't buy Valve games on the EGS, you can't buy EA games on the EGS why should you be able to buy an Epic game on Steam? You understand they own the game and studio now right? So what are you mad about? Successful companies making good business moves? Sounds more like jealousy then rage at this point.

I mean, why not hate on the developers that take the money, too? Why is Epic the big bad guy? Where does it say that the game will be removed off of Steam?

    https://variety.com/2019/gaming/news...ix-1203202663/

Other articles that supposedly reached out to Epic were told that the game will be supported on steam once it launches on the egs. People are taking them saying supported rather then sold to mean it will be removed from the store and become an exclusive.

Actually, one can deduce that because that's 10 million players who will no doubt be forced to use Epic's launcher eventually. Trying to poach players from Steam and onto their service by making it mandatory that players use their launcher isn't hard to do, and is one way to do it. But thankfully not all gamer's are retards and will see through such a thinly veiled guise.

They are on record as stating that the game will remain on steam and be supported on steam. Even if they don't sell it on steam. However you don't buy an entire game studio just to make the game exclusive. You buy the rights to the game. It isn't a thinyly veiled guise. Developers by other developers when they make popular games. Steam has done it. EA. Activision.
