I tried it on p servers as a paladin.
On a smaller p server we had a team that literally never lost a cap....Was still a GIANT PAIN IN THE ASS TO RANK. And there wasn't that much competition by private server standards (which is obvious by never allowing a single flag cap). But what they lacked in skill and prep they made up for in play time.
Still easily over half the week needed to be spent grinding with no losses and better honor per hour than any competitors.
I didn't bother stopped at 11 and just played for fun (black mechanostrider is dwarf pala bis), two of my fellow paladins finished the grind just for the lulz but you gain basically nothing but a 2h and a MH when AQ releases (that isn't even bis).
Really the phsyical classes are the only ones it's worth it for. You do get some gains as a caster but not nearly as big as war/rogue/hunter. The rest you're just doing it for hte love of the game or the challenge
edit - druids have a badass set too but that's only good for pvp, the physical classes get BiS weapons for BWL. Warrior marshall legs are godlike. Nothing like that for most classes
This shit is reserved for people on government assistance/socialists and commies. Literally no one else could have time for this and do it in a legitimate manner. So hopefully youre either from Alabama, China or Eastern Europe. Either way we feel bad for you if you can get this
Is it feasible to just wait it out and grab the title later on with a 12 hour a week commitment or do higher ranks keep pushing that rank even after obtaining it?
I failed miserably in actual vanilla with significantly less responsibilities...
Maybe rank 10 or 11... but that's almost assuredly it for me, unless honor caps to push ranks are vastly lower/less competitive this time around.
12hs a week? Not unless your server is completly dead. (No sane individual would maintain their rank after reaching it, but more competition will fill their place.)
The real issue is the weekly decay, you lose 20% of your total aqumilated RP every week.
In the lower ranks this does not matter much.
Towards the end ranks nearly all of your weekly ranking points goes to beating this decay. A few examples;
* This is the norm but could be adjusted (server size/ patch);
**after rank 3; 5k RP is needed for each rankup).
***The absolute max RP anyone can get per week is 13k (top honor earner; standing 1, bracket 1).
**** bracket 2, standing 1 RP = 12k
*****b1 +b2 ~ 0,5% of players
****** outside bracket 1+2; 99.5% of players; maximum RP gain = 11k
(Imagine we farm a ton so we get 11k rp, you can farm more honor than 99% of other horde or ally and not get this).
Rank 10 40k RP; -8k rank decay + 11k
Week 1 -> 43k ; -8,6k + 11k
Week 2 -> 45,4K ; (Hit rank 11)
...
Rank 12 (50k) ; -10k
Week 1 -> 51k ; -10,2k
Week 2 -> 51,8k ; -10360
Week 3... 52440 Rp
....not even 50% towards r13
R13 (55k RP) = -11k Rp <- cutoff rank, to make 12 to 13 realistically you have to mange to get bracket 2.
R13+80% (59k Rp) = -11,800 Rp
13 to 14 ; second cutoff, you dont need standing 1; but you do need to reach b1.
You can chill/ rankup slowly to 1-10, and then from that point push hard a few weeks. (But as you see you will still need to nolife the last few ranks). If you falter you go down down down
I am not even sure if I want to go for rank 12 since 11->12 it's already a pretty big grind.
I wouldn't really say it's a "skill" to spend 10 hours a day doing something you don't enjoy. Grinding rank14 is nothing but farming honor for 10 hours a day with your group. Whoever spends the most time, gets most honor and reaches that R14.

Except that you won't be only one who has the same idea, so yey there is competition again. Well, maybe at some point that might be realistic, but Classic will probably be dead at that point anyway.
Absolutely not. Grand Marshal/High Warlord requires far more time than I'm able to commit entirely to PvP.
Be seeing you guys on Bloodsail Buccaneers NA!
Sorry if that was your experience going to high warlord.. you had it really REALLY easy and you were on a very unpopulated server. We had to share accounts and calculate honor gained compared to other people, set alarms to get up to put in our 12 hours of farming a day etc.. for 2-3 weeks just to go from rank 13 to 14 lol
Will go for atleast rank 12 and maybe 13 on my hunter. Dont care about rank 14 tbh. If only they would offer actual good range weapons at 14...
Speaking from personal experience:
Fuck doing that shit again.
Dragonflight: Grand Marshal Hottage
PC Specs: Ryzen 7 7800X3D | ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I | 32GB 6000Mhz DDR5 | NZXT Kraken 120
Inno3D RTX 4080 iChill | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | NZXT H200 | Corsair SF750 | Windows 11 Pro
Razer Basilisk Ultimate | Razer Blackwidow V3 | ViewSonic XG2730 | Steam Deck 1TB OLED
Nah. I'll definitely do a lot of pvp, but I can't commit that kind of time anymore.
