EU: Man found guilty of discrimination for not looking woman in the eyes

    https://www.reddit.com/r/belgium/com...m_source=share

According to the Brussels correctional court, Redouane Ahrouch, the leader of the Islam party, has committed discrimination. He has been sentenced to six months' suspended imprisonment and is also required to pay compensation to the victim.

The facts took place last year in April. Redouane Ahrouch, from the Islam party, did not want to look the Walloon journalist Emmanuelle Praet in the eye during a political debate on RTL-TVI.

That is discrimination, a correctional judge in Brussels has now ruled. Praet's lawyer confirms this. Ahrouch has now been sentenced to six months in jail with suspension and he also has to pay damages of 5,000 euros.
We are often struck down easily. However no matter how often beaten, we can't forget the joy we felt during the dispute. The pleasure of stretching our willpower. The pleasure of trying out our own strength. The pleasure of seeing a manifestation of real comradely emotions among friends. The pleasure of seeing the world clearly split into camps of foes and friends. The pleasure of seeing an improvement in our own personality. by Sakae Osugi

    You should probably add that:

    - The woman in question was the talk show host of a program he was invited to.
    - He also refused to shake her hand, talk to her or acknowledge her existance in any other way. When asked why, he said it's 'because she's a woman.' That's the discrimination he was sentenced for.

As a funny added tidbit, his party, ISLAM, demands, among other things, to strip women of the right to vote, introduce seperated seating in public transportation, deny women the right to run for any office and outlaw any non-Halal food in school cafeterias.

So, now it is illegal to not do well with the opposite gender?

Now it is illegal to be shy?

The talk show host should have ignored him for the rest of the program

Just to point out: This has nothing to do with the EU, this a decision of the belgian court in Brussels for Belgium, following belgian laws.

No. This is why you don't get your news from reddit. See my post above yours.

Okay, so you do not have a problem with someone who is invited to someones show to share his view on todays topics, then outright refuse to talk to the person who invited you, simply because she's a woman?

It is a problem but not one that should be a legal matter.

    Not in any meaningful sense.

Well, you can have your opinion, I guess. Good thing there's not many people who think like you, though.

This is about his personal space. It's not news here that I don't like religion, and I don't feel like defending it, but you cannot force people to touch others or look at them a specific way, cause that's kosher in that culture. If he wants to be "pious", and doesn't do anything evil, doesn't attack women, doesn't incite, I don't give a damn that he abides by his religious views on gender. Leave the dude alone.

Oh, and it's not like he invented this way of behavior to mock this woman. It's in the Sunnah and the Quran. It's widely accepted as Islamic. So the dude is just following his religion, and in this case, he doesn't affect anyone, outside of the feefees of that woman that thinks she's insulted.
Yeah, but he followed her invitation to her show. So at least then the fact that she's a woman didn't bother him. He only did it to be edgy on TV.

Discrimination laws should only apply to things like housing, employment, justice system and such things. Not personal interactions between people who cannot negatively affect the other or hurt them by not interacting with them.
