Mayor Pete Buttigieg, democrat, for president

What do you leftists think about him? He's ranked #3 on the list of democrat presidential candidates. Is 37, just barely old enough to hold the office of president and would be the youngest president ever. Is a veteran and has a husband.

I'd vote for him over Sanders.

Near the top of my list. Wasn't that big of a supporter of him until I listened to him in a couple of podcasts and rallies.

He's currently my primary pick and who I'm canvassing for; I like his policies and I think there are many aspects about him that appeal to a lot of people, not the least of which striving to reconcile faith and the left wing.

Really long assed "announcing he's running for president" speech, if you want more of an idea of who he is.

He's qualified for the debates so we'll find out more in June. (sheesh, the 2020 campain is starting already)

He's an impressive person to be sure, but I'm still skeptical of him as a politician/policymaker at this point. I haven't been watching the candidates much at length yet, but he's definitely got potential as a candidate. He'd have to do a lot to convince me to put him ahead of Bernie or Warren.

Consider that what the country may need at this point is less a policymaker and more someone capable of channeling energy through Congress - though it's a fair point that you raise.

Though I suspect that whatever government we have after the election is going to largely ride or die on its cabinet picks.

This in particular is why his elite/McKinsey background makes me wary: he could be another Obama in the "progressive on the streets, status quo in the sheets" sort of mold.

He's gay; therefore he will never win a national election in the US. I'm not making a judgement here on him, but simply stating fact.

I agree, Ilike the guy but the US isn't ready for a gay president.

I like what I've seen from him. I'd be happy to vote for him if it came down to it. Still unsure who I'm voting for in the primary. It's probably between him and Sanders.

It certainly would not keep me from voting for him. If he attacked those for having religious beliefs only against that life choice, then I might. He would need to keep his life style choices out of his debates, unless he is personally attacked for picking such. Standing up and expressing support for the Constitutional rights for gays, is another matter and certainly worth noting.

People said the same thing about a black president too...

He won in Indiana the year he came out of the closet.

Not only gay, but also with the word Butt in his last name. Not a chance.

People said the said thing about a president with a middle name of "Hussein".

    Being religious is a choice.
    Being gay is not.
