Should video games become more like TV? Does the game industry needs it's own HBO?

Should the video game industry have it's own answer to studios like HBO, Pixar/Disney, and Marvel?

I think Bioware could be compared to Marvel.

With the deterioration of Bioware I fear that we may lose the Marvel of video games. CD Projekt Red is awesome but I would compare them more to HBO.

Is there a future for party based RPGs? Do we need to cut off stuff like this but retain party members and banter to appeal to the mainstream gamer? Or do we end up alienating the RPG audience all together?


Do we need a Disney? I would compare Nintendo to Pixar or Disney but Disney has taken risks with creating new IPs like Big Hero 6 and Zootopia whereas Nintendo has rarely gone outside it's existing IPs.



Does the gaming industry needs it's own Disney? A studio that is not to create new IPs with colorful characters and family friendly stories?

Should Nintendo take risks and create new IPs?

Should the game industry be inspired by TV and movies? Or would it lose more than it would gain?

Some of the action might be a bit "comic-book" but in terms of story Mass Effect owes a lot more to space-opera like Babylon 5 and its literary forebears.

that said, we already have HBO like game services and google seems to be coming up with their own soon. you know, you pay monthly subscription like with HBO to acess a bunch of media to consume. and no, games should NOT be more like it.

As for studios with reputations honestly bioware, bethesda, obsidian abd so on were all kings if there respective genres(blizzard being rts,arpgs and mmos, bethesda 3d rpg/action adventure, bioware heavy narrative driven rps with an emphasis on choice and formerly CRPGs, obsidian CRPGs and so on)

Each of them could be compared to say dusney, fox and so on.

Buut they've all fallen and what i find interesting is there successors in a way are already forming

Larion is taking the place of Obsidian and bioware in a way through the Original Sin series(i will add that depending on how Owlcat games does with a sequel they might be the new Obsidian)

I always considered CDPR the successors to Bethesda but i might be wrong about that.

Most other genres have a few standouts(mmos for instakce have FFXIV, GW2 and ESO) but no big stabd outs imo like in the past. But overall i would say indie/kickstarter studios are slowly replacing the former big names as the kings in there respective genres.
