This argument is kinda bullshit anyway, since we will have absolutely no way of knowing of which WoW players are on classic and which are on retail

    What u guys taking ?
As someone who played Vanilla, leveling was hot steaming garbage. Worst experience of any expansion it was SLOW boring and you had to run all over the place as quests would bounce you between zones and even continents. The quests were unimaginative, kill quests, fetch quests, and the occasional escort quest that took twice as long as regular quests due to the "escort speed" of the npcs.

Classes were super unbalanced and Blizzard didnt try to fix anything. Certain classes had certain roles and specific specs were required for certain aspects. PVP was the closest to balance in that just about any spec could do it just not as well as others while in raiding top guilds required specific specs for the most part.

Dungeons were harder because they were overtuned and most players did not know how to play properly. They were hard only because of tuning and not because of mechanics. I think when doing them now they will be substantially easier as people know how to play the classes by this point. Was purely a l2p issue.

People who never played classic will play for a few days and stop when they realise how much convenience and systems they lose. For Classic to be successful is 100% relies on nostalgia.

i just dont understand the insecurity and open hostility about it. There's plenty of WoW for us all IMO. If you like Live, more power to you. If you like classic, i'm right there with ya.

there are two diff subgenres within the MMO genre. One is an old school MMORPG (Classic) and one is an MMO ARPG with a lot of systems ripped from Diablo 3.

Doesn't necessarily make one better than the other, that's subjective, but we're all WoW players and one version of WoW being successful is good for the other side and vice versa.

Strange, i just happen to think it's a better game and it's not nostalgia. /shrug. Some of us prefer a more old school MMORPG over the faster paced MMO ARPG of current WoW.

EXAMPLE: I have friends who still (lol) play MUDs and won't come to WoW til it's classic for a few reasons... 1) because they don't wanna join a game 10 years in 2) they prefer a more old school EQ style of MMO, to which i agree.

I think classic is gonna be bigger than anyone expects

Classes were balanced in an odd sense of paper, rock, scissors. You could be good at endgame pve, pvp, or leveling but not all 3. 2/3 is what every class basically had, and yes, leveling IS a pillar of vanilla so those classes that suck endgame do shine somewhere.

Dungeons were more unforgiving, which makes them harder by definition. You can screw up a good bit in todays dungeon, and as long as you have gear, you're good and can just aoe it all down. Try that in vanilla and you're gonna have a bad time. It was more tactical, requiring CC, and thus requires more out of the players. And, the gear drops may not even go in your favor so gearing up is more difficult THUS making it all more challenging.
    this exactly

Pre-cata quests and leveling zones were ass. The quests were boring as all hell, and you were lucky to get quests at all during some parts of the leveling process. Cata revamp had coherent storylines and was a 100% better leveling experience imo.

that's your opinion and i feel 100% the opposite. And you know what? That's perfectly ok there's plenty of WoW for us all. Just because i prefer a more classic old school experience to match my old age, doesn't mean i'll belittle wow live players. many of my friends enjoy BFA, and so do many of our fellow forum posters.

We are all part of the WoW community. Instead of tearing each other down for minor differences of opinion, we should all be coming together to be glad that WoW classic is going to be coming out and not only breathing life into the game, but all that WoW classic profit is gonna end up directly going into WoW live development. It's a win/win for everyone

The question is ridiculous and hardly worthy of even answering, but no, Classic will be extremely niche after an initial surge at launch and that will be it. I look forward to playing it for variety only.

100% Classic will overtake retail. Especially as more and more streamers get behind it.
What the naysayers don't understand is the community aspects behind classic.

Playing within a CLOSED REALM system greatly outweighs everything on retail.

Yes, the skill cap of classic is greatly reduced but who cares.

At the end of the day, classic is hands down better & way more enjoyable then retail.

I think initally it will be relativel big. I mean there are well over 100M accounts that have been made and I'm sure there are a few that will check it out who do not subscribe already. I also believe there are plenty subbed that will check it out. I think after a few months, the MAUs for Classic will be well below retail due to the lack of QoL improvements that have been made since, pluse nothing new ill be added. I mean the biggest, most well known PS barely had 250K at it's peak. I could be wrong, but we will have to see.

    Don't claim opinion as fact.
Currently experiencing the beta right now, and it I find the simplicity of the old game refreshing, hardly anything is better IMO, than today. Not to mention the awe of newness is no longer there, so ther eis something else that takes away from it. I mean Wildstar was a shit game, but the newness and unknown of the game was alluring. Vanilla was pretty shit but it was a brand new, tons of unknowns and never before seens.

    nostalgia?
    lol
i play it for 1 reason: alterac valley.
login in the morning play a bit, go to work, come back home and the same AV from the morning time is still open.
go in and play some more - go to sleep. wake up see that the AV is still open.

thats why i play classic. i dont care for PVE because its boring and until u get a piece of gear it takes ages. im enjoying my time in AV.

No, but they will both be very popular.
I think for a lot of people Classic will be where people go during content droughts.

The guy who actually runs the development of classic has said they are open to new lvl 60 content after Naxx, so i kind of expect them to since i'm banking on classic being successful
Ya, it would be really cool, and it was a very successful move for Runescape.
“If you don't believe me that is too damn bad!”

What I've noticed is that most of the PVP streamers are all about classic and the raiders aren't.

Too bad this is 1.12 AV so you're not getting your week long AV. If that's truly the only reason for you to play Classic, you might as well give up now.

Your friends are part of the overhype for Classic. They are why others (myself included) think that people don't know what they're asking for. When your friends realize they are level 48 after 1 month play, and that getting from there to 60 will take 1,5 months more, they will more than quickly revert back to retail. So you are right but only to a certain extent, classic will be gigantic, only for the first few months or so...

Did you read my post? My friends will be thrilled if they are only level 48 after 1 month. They don't play live WoW and have never tried WoW, because it's not old school enough. They are playing MUDs from like 1994 currently.

They are interested in a slower paced, EQ like WoW not todays WoW. They don't bash it, but they don't have interest in it and have never played it at all BUT when it comes to wow classic, they are all in so they could experience the WoW they want and missed, and not WoW as it exists today.

If anything, i'd call it UNDERhyped.

So your friends never once played WoW, but can't wait for Classic, because they also never played retail? Say whut? Sounds like we're adding more people in the pile of people who don't know what they're asking for....
