My colleague is 5 days per week in gym, yet she's still fat - how?

So according to her, she goes to gym 5 days per week. And she's not a fit girl. She's not extremely obese but she's not just a bit chubbier than average person. She's something in between.

She also always eats low calorie sallad and weights her calories in every meal.

And we're not talking about a 60 year old woman who is way past her prime. We're talking about 25 year old young woman.

    So what the hell?

It could be a million things but she probably likes to eat.

She spends most of the time at the gym sitting on one of the machines doing nothing then goes home and eats a gallon of icecream.

You left out how long as in days/weeks has she been doing this workout. Also how long is she at the gym each day? How long is her workout?

Ok, for how long? You could go for 30 minutes every day which is practically nothing. Also I'd fact check her diet because that's what primarily does it, genetic factors aside.

She could be lying about the gym part.

How long is she going to the gym for daily, what types of exercise is she doing, how long has she been going to the gym, how long has she been on the diet? These are all important factors.

Most of the time it will boil down to:

    1) She might eat salads, but I’m sure she has a high overall consumption per day. She is probably doing a lot of snacking that she wont admit.

    2) She is probably ineffective in the gym. Taking too long/many breaks.

Sounds like some kind of endocrine disorder. Hypothyroidism, maybe.

Exercise is only like 30% of being healthy. Diet is everything, man. Just cause she's eating salads at work doesn't mean she ain't gettin' that quick Chikfila trip on the way home lol

She eats. If she say that she eat salads and other things that are considered healthy and being truthful about it, she probably eat to much of it.

    Nuts are healthy, calorie heavy.
Avocado is healthy, also fairly calorie heavy due to oils.

Etc etc... Healthy products can be calorie heavy. Plenty of people think it's only junk food that have too muxh calories which is wrong.

Each person has an internal feedback loop that controls how much they eat, a "barostat".

The existence of such a feedback loop should be obvious, since even slight imbalance of intake/consumption of calories would accumulate to large changes in weight over time. And most people don't count calories, so some sort of internal sense coupled to the feeling of hunger must be running things.

Exercising more just means the barostat increases food intake to compensate.

I'd argue that if you know what to do, you could get a solid workout done in 30-40 minutes.

    Could be two things:

    1. Typical case of underreporting when we talk about her intake.
    2. Her intake is way to high to begin with

"I eat healthy and do so much sports" - you hear this shit from clients all the time.

    Can be a few things,
She lies about what she eats.
Sure she maybe eats low calorie sallad, but maybe she eats to much of it? 200 calories is not that much. But eat that 10 times a day... well :/
She is one of those that doesn't know softdrinks, or soda are calorie heavy. Damn even milk contains a ton of calories...
Going to the gym and only lifting weights doesn't burn that much extra calories. Cardio is needed for that and I have no idea if she does any cardio at all.
Also with cardio I mean atleast 30 min workout. Not some 5-10 min "warm-up" BS.
Or she just lies about it and have never even been to a gym.
Or, or!!! Does she even wanna lose weight? What is her reason to go to the gym, do you know that?

    2 anwers:
    1) she is lie about her training. And do almost nothing. She probably sitting somewhere and eat ice cream.
    2) she lie about her diet. Fastfood and similar crap. A lot of it.

Its trivial logic. Fat cannot become from nowhere. The only way to get it - food. Also gym will decrease your calories. So....weak trainings and a lot of food - no other answers. And obviously she don't show you full picture. It's hard for people to admit their weaknesses. More funny describe this as MIRACLE. "I eat nothing and work everyday and still fat as truck, how it could be?" Oh yes. How it could be lol?

p.s. with proper diet and trainings you will see changes already after 2-3 weeks.
