Welcome to the Football Season thread for 2019/2020!

Last year there were a few new rules and guidelines to follow, to keep the thread on topic and constructive for all posting and reading. After some early mourning of the death of the Tom Cruise meme dreams, this generally worked out. Last year's thread was the lightest on moderation I can recall, while still remaining active.

A reminder on the additional thread rules:

1. All conversations must be generally kept on topic, while conversation naturally deviates, don't allow this to go more than half a page before taking it elsewhere, we have many subforums for different things better suited.

2. While memes are not banned, they must be football related.

3. Disagreements are fine, arguing is acceptable, insults are not. Keep it civil, and argue the points made, not attack the people making them.

4. As ever, tragedies regarding clubs, players, or other people surrounding the football world are not acceptable points of mockery, ridicule or banter. Keep that out of here.

5. In addition to 4. Wishing injury on players, coaches, referees etc is not acceptable. The reason being that such comments are provocative towards fans of other teams (or in the case of referees really just crass behaviour) and are little more than flame baiting. On the same note, sweeping statement insults against the fans of a club (for example X fans are all racist/Y fans are all violent scum) will not be tolerated.

6. Conspiracy theories are not permitted across the forums, if you wish to make an accusation, do so citing a credible source, preferably in English for the sake of moderation.

7. As ever, no links to illegal streams of games, or VPN sources to bypass regional blocking on legitimate ones.

8. Light hearted banter is to be expected here, however you're advised to not dish it out if you cannot take it. Reporting people for things that simply are not infractions, when you've made yourself fair game with your own comments will be ignored by the moderation team. Please stop cluttering our email inboxes.



This thread will run till Summer 2020 where it will be closed the week after the Champions League final and a new thread will be opened, as well as an additional European Championships for the summer tournament.

True, but can just be discussed here. Having a thread for 2 and a half months for transfers and summer tournaments is pretty pointless, imo.

Edit: Could possibly agree that summer tournaments should get a thread, we do it for things like World Cup and Euro 2020, but transfers don't really need one.

The Copa America has never had its own thread, and we did away with the summer transfer thread a couple of years back.

The NL final four is essentially 3 matches, and not really new thread worthy.

I for one am the least optimistic about a football season for a decade, Yeovil Town are back in non league with the owner desperate to sell and we don't even have a manager or a full squad and United are going to United while City and Liverpool push on.
