I dont like it because its anti competition. Guaranteed spots for the founding clubs, that is quite the piss take.
Theres been different power houses each decade so to just snap shot within this time frame because of the international appeal of those clubs is rather corrupt
Who wants this? I mean apart from whoever club owner is involved, who is recommending this or even funding this?
Literally them. It's an American financed idea, by JP Morgan, driven by the owners of US sports franchises, overtly that the Glazers, Fenway Sports Group, and the owners of Arsenal, but Manchester City's owners also have significant investment in American sports, as do I believe the others. They've been pushing for this for a while, particularly with the pre-season tournaments that have been held in the US. Something we've perhaps been shielded from since they're boring as fuck and no one gives a shit about them; but they do attract large crowds.
It's unlikely to be the end of it either, as after the first few rounds these kinds of contests become uninteresting and as the season goes on there's less and less to play for; which is why it ends with a knock out tournament - the most likely home of those matches being on "neutral grounds" in the US and middle-east. Perhaps there'll be a mid-season 'end of stage' tournament to get some more of those in too.
Fundamentally it is all about money and exposure, and Europe is no longer a big enough market and it's too distant a market for its investors.
Furthermore, United, Spurs, Arsenal, and the Italian clubs have had a reality check in recent years in failing to qualify or make meaningful progress in the UCL, and Real and Barca are having rough times too, but instead of getting good, they opted to make their own league that they don't need to access on merit.

So apparently Chelsea and City are having second thoughts....
The shitshow continues.
the amount of stupidity in the world is huge
this replace Uefa Champions League with a new competiton for some clubs, everything else stays the same
basically from England around 15 teams will be playing european tournaments in addition to their domestic leagues
the only ones who lose are the UEFA mobsters, because the TV income for their competitons will drop by 80% minimum when those clubs will play other tournament
so many gullible people on social media. who said "cause of stupidity is lack of information" was proved wrong by the internet.
P.S. and the politicians inserting themselves in to this for easy electoral points is laughable
id doesnt need to be replaced
just that those big clubs belive they bring too much to table and get back too little (while UEFA mobsters holding to much back instead of passing it to the clubs)
so they will play their own international cup, in which they can get their fair share
its a free world and i see absolutely no problem
i will repeat : this only replaces UCL with a new competiton for 12-20 clubs. everything else stays the same. also, i think is a good thing, more lower level teams from those countries will be able to play international tournaments
I think everyone understands they want to get more money.
One of the biggest no-go's however is the closed competition. 12 or 15 teams that can't relegate? Ridiculous. That might work in the very thrilling American sport leagues (it doesn't).
What if at the end of the season the numbers 1 till 5 are the "guest" teams. Does the number 5 have to relegate?
no,
is UCL is destroying national leagues ? same thing
also UCL will continue to exist but it will be relagated to 2nd cup grade, like Europa League now

this is not "without merit" competition
is a merit accumulated over many years, compared to current UCL where sport merit is based only on last season.
win some cups, have millions of fans -> thats your qualifying merit here.
There's 32 (soon to be 36) teams in the champions league. For some of these teams, their cities and people, those matches are a great source of prestige and revenue. There's been complains for years that there's too many games already. An extra league to be played midweek isn't feasible. The system is already stretched out as it is.
yes, it is. the remaining teams playing in UCL competition will lose a lot. money will be much fewer as nobody will play billions of TV rights for a competion without those 12 teams
thats life
from a point of view is not fair but its also fair, everyone will get moch closer to what they deserve
UEFA is making a big fuss because they will lose a ton of money, not that they care about the clubs, if they cared they would not hold back 50% of the money to make themselves rich
That’s resting on laurels, not merit. It doesn’t even seek improvement.
Historically teams like Red Star Belgrade, Nottingham Forest, Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev, Benfica, Marseille, Ajax, Anderlecht, just off the top of my head have been considered European greats, while Man City have almost zero European pedigree at all, and less than 20 years ago were a second division club. Hell, I don’t think many United fans felt we had any right to be in the UCL this season having scraped in on the last day; nevermind the performances we put in it in those rare appearances of the last decade.
Meanwhile Spurs get in on the basis of one season’s performance? And then there’s Arsenal who haven’t been good since about 2006.
Stature is temporary and needs to be earned.

Absolutely. As @RobertoCarlos said, it's a snapshot of today. What about good old Celtic

It's not freedom. It's freedumb. Everyone loses out apart from a selected few. By everyone I mean teams, cities, people, the entire organisation.
how can you lose something that doesnt belongs to you ?
oh, you mean losing your cow to milk for money, cause what happened till now, UEFA was milking those clubs, keeping the majority of spoils but also giving (redistributing) some scraps to others
if anything , this new competition will make the things fair. everyone will get rewards more closely related to its value
