That's the swiss law, and I think it's pretty much on point. A large leeway is applied by the justice under 16. Parents can't just throw someone in jail when their precious 15yo sweetheart (who's a horny teen) has sex with their BF/GF.

That depends entirely if you're dating with the intentions of a hook-up or if you're dating hoping for an active relationship. I find that it's a lot harder to relate to people who are considerably younger or older than yourself. Even a single decade can change a lot.

That said, just go with personal preference. Is he/she 18 and you're 30? It might look creepy to others, but if it works for the two of you, go for it.

Fuck the haters, date whomever makes you happy. One of the longest lasting relationships in my vicinity is between 2 gay men, the youngest was 18 and the older one was 50 when they met through their hobby. They've been going steady for 30 years now. It's going to be heartbreaking for the younger one when his life companion passes but such is life.

it's a very big gray area. i've met couples that are 15 years apart in age and they were great for each other, and it was real.

but just a couple of weeks ago at a Slayer concert i was standing next to a group of 4. the two girls were probably early 20s, and one of the guys was the same. the other guy looked like he could have been one of their fathers, but had a "hip" look about him (hair gelled and spiked and had younger peoples style of clothing on). ok, whatever. one of the girls starts making out with the other younger dude in the group. ok, whatever...

then, the older guy and the other girl start going at it HEAVY. like his hand is down her shirt grabbing boob and she was all into it. not my business, but gross nonetheless.

kind of pissed me off that it drew my attention so much, but the older guy was like a lot older... i dunno weird oddity i hadnt seen before.

anyways, whatever, if the two people are happy together then let it be. as long as no one is being manipulated and its a good relationship, why should anyone care about an age difference?

I am going to say if you are 18 as old as you want never below 18, if you are 21 as old as you like, if you are 30 as old as you like but never younger than 21, if you are 40 - 50 never younger than 29.

I think that's pretty fair.

Assuming everyone involved is over 18, + or - 10 years is usually considered pretty socially acceptable. Once the age gap gets into the 15-25 year range then you start to get the "looks" from other people when you're out in public. If the gap is more 25 years then you'll start to get comments about being an old fool.

Have two acquaintances (one male, one female) who like to date older men/women and talk about this stuff a lot, which is what I based the above comments on. Also based on personal observation when at social events with these people.

Also going to add that I personally don't care who dates who, as long as everyone is a consenting adult. Large age gaps can seem odd but I definitely think that people can be happy in them.
