And on top of there not being time, he also would have been impacted more by having to start again quickly, if he's in decline, but masking it with substances, and again, he is not.

So, I think LeBron, like Tom Brady, just spends a fortune on managing his body and is an outlier to begin with and it results in him being able to do the things he does still. On the broadcast of the Lakers- Celtics game they said he spends more than a million dollars a year just to keep up his body. That kind of investment is only possible for the ultra rich and ultra dedicated. Not to mention it also requires ridiculous discipline to maintain.

So yeah, I think he and Tom Brady are just outliers among outliers and prove that with the right approach and dedication that you can play and play well far longer than we thought possible even 10 years ago.
Well there's also the possibility that he is on something that avoids detection.

A couple ongoing "controversies" right now. One, Shaq is a dumbass. Called out Donovan Mitchell for literally no reason a bit ago, and then dunked on Rudy Gobert's contract. Now, he's trying to claim he's the reason they're doing so well (they fucking already were), and just keeps doubling down on his stupidity every time he's on camera.

Second, the Dallas Mavericks haven't been playing the national anthem this whole season, and nobody noticed til now. And the NBA responded as you would expect, basically giving them no option. mark Cuban SAID it was because he didn't feel the anthem represented everyone, which is very true given all the non-Americans who play in the NBA. But I have a feeling knowing him that he just wanted something to shove in the NBA's face. Nobody noticed, nobody cared. Completely unnecessary. Pelicans coach Stan van Gundy supports it. But it looks like Cuban is caving, so I'm guessing a fine wasn't the only thing they intended to do to him.

I don't know what gets into the Pistons when they play good teams, but this is the second time they beat the Celtics and play out of their mind, especially shooting wise. Turn into the fucking 2014 GSW when they play us it seems.

Kinda over the Celtics getting players hurt and playing like ass as a result, though.

It’s reported that Knicks believe they have enough pieces to trade for a superstar (wrong) and they believe it’s the right time to do it (also wrong).

Most likely outcome if they manage to do anything is they bet the farm on a fake superstar like Ben Simmons.

Who is even out there to be had? It's mid-season and most of the stars I can think of off the top of my head are doing well with their current team.

Almost everybody is also locked up for next season, so who do they even have their eye on?

The only good player I can think of that might be willing to move is Oladipo, but that's not a superstar.

He can likely be had for very little though and also will most likely react to being wanted for a change really well. Dude's been moved from teams a load of times when he's a great player when healthy.

I know Celtics have like 6 games in 8 days, but they are currently down 12 at the half against the Wizards, with absolutely NO energy, terribly sloppy play, and giving up way too many fouls. I personally turned the game off, cause I have better ways to spend my time then to watch the crap the Celtics are currently putting forth.

Sixth man of the year Jordan Clarkson scores 40 as the one seed in the west beats the one seed in the east. 8-13 from three, typing a single game record for the Jazz. Overshadowed by Ben Simmons getting 42 in his career best. Thanks for making the NFL offseason fun.

Westbrook will be getting the Carmelo treatment soon - he's turned into an unplayable player. The idiot is still posting a usage % over 30 while shooting 41% from the field. He has negative win shares, and he has 90 million dollars remaining on his contract. He's been traded twice in the past two years, and unless John Wall gets hurt again, the team that traded for him clearly lost the trade both times. Before that he had an MVP caliber teammate who left the team in a move that was largely regarded as an attempt to play with less selfish co-stars. Fascinating how a guy can just leave a trail of destruction in his wake and exit the league with an MVP and likely place in the hall of fame, without ever learning how to play on a team.

Anthony Davis achilles injury sounds really serious. Hope he gets healthy.

Also, the 1 seed in the east would be the 5 seed in the west right now. Amazing how the West has dominated the East for 20 years at this point.

Spurs are postponing their next three games as they have four positive tests. Charlotte is missing their next two during contact tracing. Meanwhile, Mavs-Pistons Wednesday is being postponed due to the weather in Texas destroying the power grid.

Oklahoma City Thunder change jerseys at half after mix-up with Atlanta Hawks

Really? They couldn't tell they were almost the same?

So it seems as if I was completely off on Thibs. Knicks are actually playing like a well coached team. The most encouraging thing is how the shooting percentages have gone up... it was mystifying how bad last year's Knicks were at shooting, shooting 69% FT last year, now back up to 78%. That alone is an extra two points a game. I'm skeptical they'll be able to maintain their #2 defensive rating, but all the things last year that seemed to scream "we're just a poorly run team" seem to have massively trended in the right direction under the new regime.

I feel a trap game coming up for the Celtics tonight.

Raptors are missing most of their starters and I think most of their coaching staff too still. On top of that it's the last game before the All-Star break, where 2 of our 3 main guys will be playing. The rest will get some much needed rest and will probably have weekend getaways planned (most players in the league do, although probably harder now with Corona still raging).

This is all just screaming for the Celtics to not be ready for this game or to take it too lightly.

If the Celtics come out flat or play like shit in the second half and allow these shorthanded Raptors to get back in it, then consider this my "fucking knew it" declaration.

Consider me also delighted if the Celtics prove me wrong and step on their necks. We could do with a nice blow out win to go into the All-Star break.

Jazz/Sixers game went into overtime, number one seed in the east and number one seed in the west. ESPN instead decides to air the Nets blowing out the Rockets, because of course they did.

Toronto Raptors hit a bazillion clutch 3s, but Celtics managed to hold on and win. Thank fuck for that.

Actually watching the All Star Game stuff. 3 Point contest starting about now.

    - - - Updated - - -

Steph Curry is still the absolute best shooter ever. Shot like shit in the 2nd round of the 3point Contest to start and still finished it up hitting nearly everything and getting the win.

It's a shame Kevin Durant can't play, but honestly, Team Lebron would have won this All Star Game pretty convincingly anyway I think. LeBron, for whatever faults you may ascribe to him, he;s a pretty savvy evaluator of talent and a good team builder. Not sure how you let him get Giannis AND Steph Curry AND Dame Lillard.

The NBA needs to either drop the Dunk contest, massively refresh its concept, or offer some kind of big reward/incentive and make it invitation only with requirements.

The only reason the guys that were in this contest are even in the NBA is because of covid and teams needing a swollen roster of g leaguers.

    I have 2 thoughts on a change:
    1. Open the contest to outside talent, make it a big reward to that talent. If NBA players want to join in to "defend their turf" then fine. But let talent actual come in and put on a show. Guys that jump high and get 5 mins of playing time aren't necessarily good dunkers, and since the crowd already doesn't give a shit about these guys, at least have the crowd know them for their dunks after the fact. Shit, they should let NCAA athletes in, could you imagine the profile a first rounder could get by winning the dunk contest before they make the league! Of course pay these guys for being there and putting on a show.

    2. Massive incentives, make the dunk champion the face of the nba in some respects for branding. Make participating and winning a modifier to contracts, being an all-star already gets you a minimum contract, make the dunk contest, especially multi year participants, get a 500k/1m pay bump. Either through their team or have the nba pay them (such as the branding idea). Maybe have allstar break patches for players. Nothing huge, but dunk contest champion gets a little crown above the NBA patch on their jersey, skills and 3pt contest could do the same. This would also make their own merch sell better in the NBA store and make them more valuable. Special edition jerseys for the half year until the season is over. Not going to lie, this actual sounds like a pretty dope idea that helps the player and league, raising prestige of merch.

Idea 3. Fucking cancel the contest until guys are back asking to do it. I know Gordon or Lavine weren't massive stars when they were in the contest, but they were on the rise. These guys might not be in the league next year except for maybe Simon's.

Yeah it's kinda sad. I only watched the highlight videos after, but I was more excited for the three-point contest than the dunk contest, by a long shot.

    S. Curry doesn't even break into the top 250 in FG% in the NBA.

    He's 7th in 3pt%.

Everything that can pretty much be done has been done as far as dunking goes. Unless you want that stupid crap like jumping off cars, with mascots riding piggyback, and other circus nonsense.

Maybe raise it to 11 or 12 feet and see who can do what can be done on 10feet?

You aren't trying to compare his FG % to a bunch of players who make their living in the paint or post and take high percentage shots all day, are you? A quick glance at that list shows Shaq in the top 10--a man who can barely make a free throw. I can't even begin to describe how misguided that comparison is.

Not to mention just about everyone in the vicinity of Steph on 3 pt % is a role player/specialist who doesn't have anywhere near the heat on them that Steph does every night.

I kind of hope you're trolling if you think Steph Curry isn't one of the best shooters to ever play. Or maybe I've watched an alternate reality NBA over my life. Hitting the shots that Steph does, at the volume he does, with the attention he gets is generational.

Some turn around for the Celtics these couple of days. They go from facing probably the worst team in the league, with half their team out (Rockets) to what might be the best team in the league right now (The Jazz).

Going to be interesting to see if we can put up a better fight than last time. At least we are home this time.

I can't wait to watch Donovan Mitchell go 9/27 again in a loss when his teammates were on fire.
