Aren't most of the Muslims in the UK from Pakistan and other areas the British had conquered rather than from the new wave of refugees in Europe? I'm not exactly sure what they're trying to achieve, because leaving the EU won't do anything about Muslims who aren't there because of the EU.

I think ‘why do they believe it?’ is a solid question. But, OP does not seem to be interested in that discussion. Oh and the answer is politicians that don’t have an actual platform or justification to hold office. See Trump in the OP as an example...

I lived in Kent for alittle over a year, i noticed no differences when it came from bigoted remarks from the conservatives i had met at the pub or in my office. The olds sure had problems but that is no different here that they fear change and are losing their seat at the table so they of course lash out. The tories and republicans here should better learn to embrace the changing demographics instead of lash out at them.

They don't and probably wont; conservative factions rarely "embrace change." That's really not their M.O.

They just cling to straws harder and harder; see gerrymandering, restrictive voter ID laws, filibustering, abandoning votes, etc.

It's up to the rest of us to see those straws knocked from their hand.
