Been looking at npc animations and, not only am I in love with the visuals of the venthyr, but I am shocked to find that the robes on this model are animated with spell animations, attacks, etc.

They've also got this going on.

I mean, it's not like Maldraxxus was one of the 'in-need-of-redemption' places. It's only the place where the most persevering personalities go, not the ones that are 'almost damned' like Revendreth.

I still question how perservering and zombie-apocalypse-hellscape are related tho .

The other places make kinda sense, but who in their right mind would want to be turned into an "undead" monster and life for eternity in Maldraxxus? Even if you are a battle junkie, it takes some special taste to actually enjoy that landscape.

And Venthyr are about to raid A51 I guess?

That wouldn't change much, Draka would still be Draka except knowing about the Lightbound Orcs and Yrel(BLeh)

That is surely true, but I guess that's the thing they are going for, efficiency and scary-ness over aesthetics ... or something like that?

They could probably give us players fully animated 3D robes already.

It's just that it'd take a lot of work, considering the many races that said robes would need to be adapted for. Look at the 3D Tier 3 Darkshore Mail set. They didn't bother adapting it to any of the Alliance. It works on Nelf I think due to NPCs of that race using it, and on Void Elves because they're Blood Elves in body and animations.

My hope is that in the next 5 years, they'll move away from ever making a 2D piece of armor ever again, unless it's meant to be sleek cloth on gloves or such. But then again, they could make it look as if it's worn rather than painted on by texturing/shadowing the fabric.

Hm... Not sure I'm a fan of Oribos, but then again I know that lighting and such can change. I was a huge fan of the Shrines back in MoP, and Dalaran, because they're vibrant places...

I suppose it'll look more alive as well with all NPCs and such in place.

I know they are not character models, but rather creature models. But personally I don't think that's definite evidence towards them not being playable in the future. They clearly use the same animations as draenei, with some unique additions like the running animations. If we look back to vulpera or Nightborne, we see similar situations (vulpera with the unique animations, nightborne with the creature models first then chr). With the added circumstance that vulpera were Blizz's worst kept secret and I'd imagine they'd try to do a better job at hiding it now.

PS: Just to clarify, I didn't write that reddit post. But I thought it was interesting to share for those who want to speculate and are excited for it. For those who don't, that's fine too.

Bored so I decided to photoshop the Maw plate pieces that WoWhead datamined. Mind you, I tried to photoshop recolor the shoulder pieces and helm to fit with the waist and leg pieces. The models are also the way they were made for Zandalari, so their positioning/scaling is different from a human's and the toe pieces are absent.
