Halloween: What type of horror movies do you enjoy?

Its that time of the year again, I always ever save for or just buy at the time any new horror movies to enjoy the season.

Everyone has the own tastes, what type of horror movies do you like to watch, find scary, or just more interesting to watch then the others?

Real based (the manson family/open water)
    Slasher films (like halloween/friday 13th)
    Supernatural/paranormal (Insidious/hellraiser)
    Gore flicks (Hostel/texus chainsaw)
    Monster flicks (Aliens/pumpkinhead)
    Psychological horror (Shining/psycho)

Super natural and paranormal is my bread and butter! Slashers are fun too but don't have as much replay value. Psychological horror is my second favorite.

Supernatural and monster. Nothing really gets to me except alien abduction stuff, that just scares the daylights out of me. Movies like Dark Skies, Fourth Kind, Communion, etc.

I love things like The Conjuring, Oculus, Insidious, etc.

Also like the standard Halloween fare, anything with werewolves or vampires. So Dog Soldiers, Underworld, the classics like Horror of Dracula, even the old black and white ones.

I heard that, I hope Eggers can do it justice. He's got a new movie releasing in a few days; The Lighthouse.

Kurt Barlow from Salem's Lot looked a lot like Nosferatu.

The ones that don't have any FUCKING JUMPSCARES, because when will movie makers learn to differentiate between "startling" and "scary".

So basically almost nothing made in the past 20 years.

There's been a few, ones that build on atmosphere more, but yeah some horror movie makers are ridiculous when it comes to jump scares. When you overuse them it makes it that you have no tension built up, and it stops being scary

This is why movies like alien and the shining are so good, the tension build in them is legendary.

I can like all genres, as long as they're well made and lovingly crafted.

And there are almost none of those. So many focus on jumpscares, show the "villains" too soon or too much, and have little to no character development.
The 2 Conjuring Movies are seen by many as exceptions, and I kinda agree, even when they do idiotic things like say "based on real events" or add side characters for scares. At least they do make you care about the people involved, rather than tick boxes of having X kinds of characters and X amount of spooky deaths.

I also have a soft spot for Ouija: Origin of Evil, for some reason. One of very few times in recent memory where I've screamed out of fear whilst viewing a movie, there's this one particular scene in a basement that played exactly into what tickles my horror bones! ^_^
The other time was in It Follows when she's in her room and "it" comes through the door all silent and huge. Scared me shitless.

Speaking of "IT", I'm conflicted They're more like, action flicks to me. I don't feel that they've captured the creeping sense of dread that the novel does so well. The moments when Bill Skarsgård merely gets to act as Pennywise without special effects and sounds and jumpscares = my favourite moments of the movies.

Your avatar is amazing though, I have to say!

Anything really. I tend to watch more of the classics than anything though. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Chucky are some of my favorites. Some other good ones are It (both the old and remake ones), the first Conjuring (Conjuring 2 was alright but not as scary as the first) the Evil Dead series, Alien series, Predator series, and Dawn of the Dead.

I also love the comedy horrors too like Gremlins, Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks, Army of Darkness, Shaun of the Dead, Brendan Fraser's The Mummy movies, and Ghostbusters. Such awesome movies.

I pretty much love them all. The only subgenres I don't like are gore/torture porn (Saw, Hostel, etc) or demonic possession movies (Exorcist excluded)

I guess my favorite around Halloween are the intentional campy ones (Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Trick 'r Treat) and the classic slashers (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream)

The cheesy/over the top horror movies that are bad enough to be entertaining (ie, fun to watch when alcohol is involved). So stuff along the lines of Gingerdead Man, Thankskilling, etc.

I'm just gonna say, born in 82, so I'm now realizing Elvira, Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice, and Christina Ricci in Addams Family, and Fairuza Balk in The Craft explain a lot about my dating history and taste in women.
