Pretty much my point.....you think Blizz. can pick and choose? you think its all black and white for them? I am being serious here and apply this to whatever X company of your choosing.

We are dealing with a whole lot of grey yet our outrage is black and white and specific for them, we expect them to act on our behalf for what reason exactly? our money? they get more from there? a principal? a moral code we break more of those than we stand up for...the only thing they have to do is to follow the rules they have set beforehand and stick to them, they can't pick and choose when to apply them or not.... hell yes it's bitter and annoying....but that how any structure works...as I said even over here state side the same would have happened.

What Activision-blizzard has to choose isn't my problem, It comes down to my morals and how I feel on a personal level. Activision-Blizzard decides to side with China (just like the NBA) and throw away morals for money that's their choice.

I don't have to deal or accept it. There is area's where its gray for me (like my cell phone example) but when it comes to gaming, The choice is quite simple. Don't side with company's who do shit like this. Just like I don't buy WB games because they decided to profit off a developer who died of cancer.

Activision-Blizzard could take the financial hit and side with the player (and still have more money than god), They choose to side with China and Money.

That's their call and this is mine.

they couldnt, its not that easy as you think, it would cause a chain of bad events happening, they would lose a shit ton of money just from losing the chinese playerbase, but thats not it, their stocks would plummet, investors would back out, causing them to lose even more money, forcing them to cut salaries and/or cut staff/people leaving, lowering worker morale, ending up in lower quality products

while i dont agree with their choice, they realisticlay didnt have any

You do realize they will cut staff/people anyway right? They just fired 800 people and yet reported the highest profit's they have had in years.

As for the stock, That shit drops or raises based on a fart alone. As for lower quality products, That is already happening (subjectively).

They would still be the biggest gaming company on the planet, They would still be raking in cash due to Loot Box's and their mobile division.

    They would be 100% fine.

Communism with Azerothian characteristics. Blizzard adheres to Dengist theory. Praise democratic centralism!

I get why blizzard did this. But it's a shame they're such a slave to the chinese market.

Pathetic and disappointing. But I understand greed trumps all.

Out of curiosity, what did you think corporations (Blizz or otherwise) worry about first and foremost?

If you truly want to understand the behavior of corporations, you need to start accepting the truth of what corporations do and how they do it.

Corporations all do the same thing...make profit. Full stop. How they do that is the market that they choose to focus on.

Most people get this reversed. They think that Blizz's purpose is to make games, and that Apple or Microsoft's purpose is to make software and hardware...but that is simply how.

Google's "Do No Evil" was removed from their Code of Conduct 1 1/2 years ago because people kept pointing out how they violated that code regularly in their insatiable race for more profit. And this is true for all the corporations.

Ever notice that more and more movies show China as important and cooperating instead of being one of the dictatorships in this world (which it actually is)? Because Hollywood found that they can make a lot of money there. Blizz has the same relationship...they have been cooperating with that dictatorship because they make good profits being in that market.

Corporations are never moral. Sometimes their decisions line up morally, but always only when it serves their profit motive.

Once you understand the reality of corporations, you will rarely be surprised by their decisions.

Capitalism itself isn't the problem, it's the aspect of capitalism that can easily lead to greed.
And if you're gonna suggest socialism/communism are a superior alternative, hate to burst your bubble, but it died in the 90s.
Otherwise, you'd be no better than the same dictatorship that Blizz is supporting.
Capitalism isn't perfect, but it's the ONLY economic system that actually functions.

I am extremely disappointed in Blizzard for this. They should be embarrassed. They are in the wrong here and deserve all backlash coming their way. I hope there is a lot of it. I hope this story turns into something big and their decision hurts the image of the company as much as it deserves to be. Punishing someone for speaking out against authoritarianism is wrong.

If you get to ask a question at Blizzcon, say you're from Taiwan or Hong Kong.
It became clear that it wasn’t realistic to try to get the audience back to being more hardcore, as it had been in the past. -- Tom Chilton

This should be the lead post on MMO-Champion, not the content preview of 8.3.

There was a time this site posted all things blizzard, now it just seems to be a corporate news release aggregation.

I will be boycotting Blizzard. I can't think of a single ethical business decision they've made over the past 5 years. I hope the company shrivels up and dies.

If anyone ever wanted to argue that there's still passionate devs and creative minds at blizzard and it's not just a gaming company like EA making shit tier products to grind money out of people no matter how low they have to sink, explain this thread then.

How far have people fallen... A gaming company pleasing authoritarians just go get money.

P.S.: What I find ironic is that South Park just recently had an episode about Chinese authoritarianism and global companies pandering to the Chinese market by willing censor themselves. As result South Park is now banned in China. I guess that's a point proven.

    UPDATE1:
I started reading this thread just as outraged as everyone else. By the time I got to the end though, I had enough time to think about it from all perspectives and realized that a gaming interview is no place for politics and Blizzard was right to suspend him. Whether he decided to share his views on China or Trump or Israel or any other political matter shouldn't matter because he's not using the correct platform. Interview with the gaming company about the game you're playing. Then you can tweet or post or use any other platform to share your political views.

That being said, this South Park episode shares my views on Chinese authoritarianism:
