    Computer advice

    Hello everyone!

Im trying to build a PC that fits my needs well. I mainly play WoW and Dota 2.

Currently i play on 1080p 75Hz but would like to upgrade at least to 144Hz (Maybe even 1440p 144Hz).

My budget is around $1,2k and currently this is what i got:

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YktLDx

What i would like is your feedback specially on this:
    1. Would you recomend spending more for 1440p vs 1080p? Is it worth it for the games i play? I've never had or seen 1440p so no idea how it compares.
    2. What do you think of current build? What would you change to optimize cost to performance ratio?

Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Finally please excuse my english, it is not my main language.

    Thanks!

Any reason You have decided upon i5-9600k?
Overall R5-3600 is better and much cheaper option.

1: Hard to say. It's kinda hard to find something that's capable of running 1440p 144hz at ~8-900 dollars, since the monitors are 3-400 dollars. But I feel the increase in picture quality is well worth it. You can always just buy the monitor later.
2: The 9600k is a pretty bad value. As are the 970 evo and the 1660ti. The PSU you selected is mediocre. It probably won't blow up, but I wouldn't pay that much for it.

Those things said, I've come up with this:
    PCPartPicker Part List

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($194.79 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard ($114.99 @ Amazon)
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($75.98 @ Amazon)
    Storage: Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ B&H)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB PULSE Video Card ($413.98 @ Newegg)
Case: *NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.98 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Gold 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.99 @ Newegg)
    Monitor: Dell S2719DGF 27.0" 2560x1440 155 Hz Monitor ($319.99 @ Amazon)
    Total: $1399.69
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The total is above your budget, but you can skip out on the monitor for now and buy it, or another one (the one I selected is kinda meh), at a later date when you have the money.
Another option would be to drop the GPU down a tier or two since you don't play very demanding games.

Also, someone's probably going to say that 850W is overkill for the PSU.. It is. But it cost the same as the 650w version, so fuck it.
Dropping to a worse MOBO and halving the storage you can get this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9RLd6R which is 40 dollars more than your build, but I'd argue that it's worth the bit extra

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Honestly i went with Intel because i know nothing of AMD and i started with the Build of the Month here on mmo-champion as a base.
From what i can tell that gpu is the equivalent of the rtx2060. Could you please let me know which one would be the equivalent of the gtx 1660 ti? Because i feel i could save some money there and that one would be overkill for what i play (but could be wrong).

Also is the motherboard-processor still a combo thing or can i use any motherboard with any processor?

    Thanks again!

    1660ti < 5700 < 5700 XT < 2070 roughly

And yes you have to make sure to keep CPU/motherboard pairs. Ryzen 3000 works with B450, X470, x570 chipsets. Intel 9th gen works on Z370 or z390 chipsets

If you want to play at 1440p at at decent fps without going to low on settings, you can forget all about the 1660 ti. The 1660 ti is a 1080p card and no more. Not even for WOW at 1440p

    The performance tiers basically go like this: RTX 2060 < RX 5700 < RTX 2060Super/RTX 2070 < RX 5700XT < RTX 2070Super

GTX 1660TI is below a RTX 2060 by quite a margin. There isn't really anything equivalent to a GTX 1660TI on the AMD side.

The 970 evo is overpriced compared to what you get out of it, and the 5700xt you've chosen is a blower card, so it'll throttle like crazy. Outside of that, I have no complaints. Fixed those two problems (and saved you 3 dollars) here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PX2JV7

The build you mentioned is good to go in my view, because the GPU 1660 TI is good enough but I doubt that your power supply would work efficiently or not
