Is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez an actual contender?

I've been hearing a great deal regarding Ocasio-Cortez, and its hard to much much sense of a lot of it. Much regarding her seems to be fear mongering, but then again its hard to find anything concrete in regards to what she actually wants to do. Rather she seems to cast a wide and extreme net and then wait for people to react. Flash without substance.

On the other hand the GOP's constant demonizing her is starting to feel like desperation; that they're afraid of her in the coming years becoming a serious candidate.

So is she truly a force to be reckoned with, or someone shouting whatever comes to mind and hoping something sticks?

Both establishments are having problems connecting with voters mostly in making their lives better, which should always come before platitudes. Would any of the rising stars from either party be where they are if the establishment not been so fucking terrible? This is why i still think we are in the throws of populism and will continue to be in such a era until D.C gets its act together and actually solve the problems of the nation first and foremost. If they want to play wack a mole in the middle east or China they need to take care of those at home first and foremost.

Get money out of politics and the power they wield becomes even less, boost the budget of the IRS and those same power players become even less powerful. Do you think that people give a shit about China or Russia? They care about the fact that people are rationing medicine, they care about the fact that almost half the nation makes under 30,000$ a year. Its not very hard to see why the common person is pissed.

She's an interesting person, she's intelligent and she represents her district well.

But I also think she's a bit overrated both by the left and the right. She's neither the greatest thing since sliced bread, nor a leftist commie who hates America.

Maybe she'll run for higher office in a few years but it's premature to really say anything.

As much as the GOP demonizes her, I'm pretty sure that it's the DNC that really hates her. She was elected over their 10 term favorite, and isn't beholden to them in any way. She's smart and media savvy which just adds to the fact that the DNC likely sees her as dangerous.

Aoc is shifting the argument position. Instead of letting Republicans set the terms of any starting point of discussion she is and is directing things in a more favorable direction.

Mostly harmless. Shockingly, Democrats are allowed to have popular figures too!

She's mostly just helping in what Sanders was already doing: Dragging the Democrats out from their right wing corporate bullshit.

Republicans just have a massive boner for her.

The right doesn't spend all this time and money smearing bad candidates. They're preparing for years-long campaigns of fear-mongering and disinformation because they're afraid her message will resonate with voters. Including Republicans.

Basically, they're aiming the same propaganda gun at her that they aimed at Hillary. Which seems awfully stupid in retrospect, basically they shot down the strongest candidate for the right wing of the Democratic Party, leading them to wake up and remember they're supposed to be left wing.

She's harmless. She's young enough that she can take two paths. 1.) She continues embracing the most radical positions, which means she'll never get mainstream public support or 2.) She starts reeling back on her crazier side, which means she loses the only thing that gave her appeal.

Hear me out for a second... what if, like the trends are showing, these more "radical" positions start becoming more widely accepted so she doesn't have to a)remain as a secondary figure or b)change her principles to appeal to "the moderates" ?

Then I'd say we're going to a dark place if some of her more insane ideas start looking normal. I'd be worried if people embraced her Green New Deal that's less about climate change and more about social justice.

I would be shocked if she gets re-elected. There is a reason why you shouldn't elect bartenders into office.

What’s wrong with being a bartender?

Careful, your anti-working class bias is showing.

She is a threat in so far as Conservative Inc is obsessed with her Socialism; but she is a genuinely likable person so she is also seen as a threat for that reason too. She is earnest, likable, trustworthy and generally a right and honorable person even if I might not agree with her. She is certainly a more refreshing person in the Democrat side than the sort the party tends to run.

I might not agree with her, but she has a good heart and I can admirer her for that.

On MMO-C we learn that Anti-Fascism is locking arms with corporations, the State Department and agreeing with the CIA, But opposing the CIA and corporate America, and thinking Jews have a right to buy land and can expect tenants to pay rent THAT is ultra-Fash Nazism. Nothing, just like there isn't anything wrong with being a Janitor but I wouldn't want them operating on me

Her faux outrage video she created screaming at a empty roadway at a couple of workers did it in for me, she's obviously fake.

What's wrong with being a bartender? Is she "not educated" or something because she worked a "regular person" job? You know, despite graduating cum laude from Boston University with a BA in International Relations and Economics, which I'm sure would be of no use to her as a House Rep.

You would be shocked a high profile Latina progressive gets re-elected in a D+29 district in New York? That's elected Democrats for 90 of the past 100 years? Seriously?

What moon of Saturn are you from precisely?

Oh, and I just want to point out, with the bartender bit, you people elected sexual predator, con artist and Vladimir Putin bitchboy Donald J Trump. You lose that line forever.

Lmao totally forgot about that one.

Democrats are driving cringey soap operas out of business.

Ok, so your predictions are purely based on wishful thinking. Got it!
