Defeated in the sense of everyone else but kong bow to godzila, so they were not a danger.

It would not make sense for then to be defeated/dead, what would even kill then? they didn't finish mecha until the movie.

And Kong apparently is on hollow earth.

10/10 movie, i don't care what any one says.

The action was freaking amazing, and they did not hide the monsters, have them fight in pitch black darkness or show "Too much" humans imo.

The story is absolute garbage writing.. but really.. like really.. Do you go to see a movie called Godzilla Vs Kong for the story?

Every scene with humans in it was annoying and plain stupid (as usual with this kind of movies).

You transport a fucking giant monkey and don't have any contingency plan for events that can happen. Very realistic...
Whole movie was a bunch of idiots that improvised on the fly and got incredible lucky.

Not to be a negative nancy. Monster stuff looked good.

So, not gonna lie, in the first part of the movie the non-stop talking about "if we take Kong out, Godzilla will come for him" only for them to just take a leisurely cruise on the ocean as if nothing bad was going to happen didn't make sense to me. What the fuck did they expect was going to happen.

I know the dialogue acknowledged it by the captain saying something like "we followed your route to avoid Godzilla's territorial paths" to explain their reasoning, but even as a viewer it was already beaten into my brain that Kong outside = no-no.

I suppose the rule of cool, which is a cool as fuck fight scene out on sea, prevailed. And it was damn cool.

Holy fucking hell what an awful movie. Nothing made sense. Hollow Earth?!?! What is the hell we're they thinking? Gravitational void to get down, but Godzilla can just make and exit/entrance with his super breath?

Let's take Kong to the Artic by ship, but whoops, who would have thought that was a bad idea? Turn off the power, Godzilla happy? Then *POOF* unrelated helicopters and other VTOL aircraft can just carry him the rest of the way.

The only decent parts were of Kong and Godzilla, separately or fighting. Mecha-Godzilla was a nice ending fight. The only redeeming human was the black guy, and it was only because his comedic ability carried his lines.

    Someone help me out here.

I agree the monster fight scenes were great. But logic, even within a world of monsters/etc, jumped out the window in the first 10 minutes.

(although the three-headed skull idea was interesting)

Meh. Awful script, hilariously shallow characters. Very little actual build or backstory. Movie felt like there was an hour chopped off the beginning. They clearly were just trying to put the two on screen together and let them tear shit up, which they accomplished. Just a shame everything else was so unbelievably shallow.

4.5/10. It was at least entertaining. Two hours of unintentional comedy.

That's not how I saw it. Kong regrouped as Godzilla was under the skyscraper and it only felt like 5 min. before Godzilla was standing back up and hunting / intimidating his "foe" from under the rubble (which was Mecha Godzilla). I could be wrong but that's how I took it. It felt like Round 2 and 3 just had a brief pause in between.

This part took me a second watching of the fight. Godzilla actually looks at the axe and nods at it (more or less saying "that's a threat to me so I'm ready to fight again" and Kong (knowing he is not an enemy of Godzilla's) looks down at the axe and then drops it. I don't think he dropped it in submission but simply to say I'm not your enemy.

I LOVED the movie BTW and I was #TeamGodzilla all the way but I really liked how they didn't have Kong actually submit to Godzilla (even roaring back in Godzilla's face when he was finally beaten).

*** My absolute favourite part was Godzilla looking demonic and going berserk on Kong right before he beat him (on all fours). Godzilla was relentless!

Watched this while I was working. It was ok for a giant monster movie. Had to get used to Skarsgard being a good guy after seeing him in the stand. I would say 7 out of 10.

I LOVED the movie. I thought it was great. Their were a few small things that I can question. But otherwise it was good as hell for me. I do know this though, Godzilla got his salad tossed by Mechagodzilla. Like Bad too. But the movie was filled with good action and I loved it alot.

Agreed. I almost wish they'd realized that no one cared about the humans, and added another 10-20 minutes of monster fighting. For all the build up, Mecha-Godzilla was fighting for what? 5 minutes? And they could have done so much more. Two-part fight with Mecha winning initially, and 'Zilla and 'Kong retreating or getting away.

    And 4.5 is generous.

Did they explore the Hollow Earth theory in Skull Island? I didn't see that movie and was wondering if any of that piece of the back story was built up there.

    Polished turd.

CG was stellar, everything else was absolute garbage.

Why is it that just because there's action it has to be a terrible movie? In a world where the Indiana Jones movies, Marvel, Back to the Futures, Mummy, Star Wars, etc....that we just say, "who cares if it sucks out loud, as long as there is action!!!!!". I just don't get it.

2/10. If they clipped only the 3 major fight scenes it would be a 10/10 but everything else in the movie from the shittiest acting to garbage pacing to the basic logic of character's decisions made super close to exiting the movie. HBO Max is one more crap film away from making me cancel the subscription and treat it like Disney+, sporadic sub when a hype series comes along.

Just give the action, cut the actors to a bare minimum to set the stage, and have it like a 40 min CGI galore. Every minute of that film tarnished the actors' reputation in my eyes.

not entirely sure which one of them came first - skull island or godzilla kind of the monsters - /looks up, looks like Skull island, but they have been talking about hollow earth theory in both movies. in Skull island we meet young doctor brooks and he mentions writing the paper on hollow earth theory, which is why he was originally hired by Monarch. in Godzilla, king of the monsters, he is back - older, but NOT wiser and they basically double down on that theory as in - this is how Godzilla moves around so quickly and where he disapears. apparently in between the movies, Skarsgaard's brother goes with hollow earth expedition mounted by Monarch. it does not go well.

the thing that was kinda odd to me is that founder of Apex apparently doesn't have anything to do with the eco-therrorist from the previous movie who was the one to buy Ghidorah's skull? I would have though they would connect them, but nope, that goes nowhere. though maybe i missed the part where they mention only finding two heads with the third gone missing? there seems to be quite a bit of back story hidden in comics, which would be fine if they still touched on it in the movies, but they seem to assume that the watcher already read the comics and knows that backstory.

in any case, the plots in these movies are basically action movie version of porn plot. they exist almost solely to loosely tie the action scenes and set pieces together (or sex scenes in porn).

...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnnnnddddddd it wasn't even the engineer that thought of it...

There was no end to the mind crushing stupidity of that movie. Not one human character had motivation that made sense. My god, these giants were fighting in the city for 30 minutes and 29 minutes into the fight there's still people chilling in the hi rises.

There's wasn't a single stupid plot point nor was there a single intelligent decision made in service of the plot.

    I hated this movie.

I agree, it was a really fun popcorn movie.

You had to shut your brain off about certain aspects of it, sure, but that's true of most over-the-top fiction. And as others have said, the "human elements" were a bit too much. This was particularly true of Millie-Bobbie Brown's (I may have misspelled her name, but I can't be arsed to look it up) entire storyline, especially sicne they could have revealed the Ghidorah stuff without all the necessary (and annoying) kiddies+conspiracy theorist hijinks. At least the young, deaf girl served a genuine purpose in the film, and leading Kong to the Hollow Earth had similar purpose.

Not sure how to measure this movie. Wasn't a bad use of time but it feels more like very mild vanilla experience.

I unexpectedly felt most positive towards Kong after it all, but I think that's just because he seems to be closest to being the main hero of this, with a lot of favorable focus. I was rooting for Godzilla before I watched the movie but he was sort of a not-antagonist/guest star character. From a moment he seemed very ferocious and threatening, then he got sandbagged like Vegeta for a good bit, and kinda passed the spotlight/baton to Kong in the final part.

Mecha Godzilla was different from what I remember and its design was okay. I think it's a bit lacking compared to the past Mecha Godzillas I remember from way back. Probably some nostalgia filter though. Its design might be overly complicated and segmented so it lacks a distinctive memorable look. But then again, this is the MKI and its role is to act as the last boss to be beaten. Maybe its concept can be turned into Moguera or something for humans to pilot in sequels to assist Godzilla.

After watching it 4 times now (HBOMax) I'm still finding things in the movie that are just cool as hell and make me want more from the entire universe. The human plot was so so to me it was nice seeing a few people back and they filled in things here and there between nice fights. The little girl was awesome I loved her place in the movie and the bond she had with Kong and still does. Personally, I loved how the movie ended yet there was a clear winner in the fights and there is really only 1 king of the monsters. The Hollow Earth part was nice and the CGI was beautiful in all aspects. Mecha Godzilla I actually liked the design could it have been a little "more" sure yet I felt the design and just the action alone were great and can look past Mecha not being 100% perfect but just to say this for what they did I think they did a good job on Mecha Godzilla I get the nostalgia from the original Toho series of movies however taking a person in a suit vs doing something in pure CGI there are going to be some trade-offs for the movement that you really just could not do much of with a person wearing a costume that had so much involved on it.

9/10 for me it's not perfect yes some things could have been better but the joy of seeing Godzilla & Kong again on-screen together brought into the new age with CGI I think they did a damn good job.

I would have liked that - even add more, have Godzilla come to Skull Island and stir the shit pot. Hell, you could have 15 minutes of plot just to bring in Mecha-Zilla, and then 2 hours of fight/hunt/retreat.

I need some help too. Like all the time spent on the two stupid kids and the conspirasist where their only contribution to the plot was pouring a drink on the computer board. The stupid kids. The whole Hollow Earth. Scotch....

I'm fine diving into a movie that sets aside some logic or physics or other to push a plot forward, that's all fine and well. But all the shit they threw at setting aside logic/physics was horrible and entirely unnecessary.

I've also been on the other side of this conversation, liking/loving a movie that generally got panned or has some "issues', but it felt like all the issues here weren't even necessary.
