Obama, Trump Tie as Most Admired Man in 2019

Barack Obama and Donald Trump are tied this year as the most admired man. It is Obama's 12th time in the top spot versus the first for Trump. Michelle Obama is the most admired woman for the second year in a row.

Each year since 1948, Gallup has asked Americans to name, in an open-ended fashion, which man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most. This year's results are based on a Dec. 2-15 poll.

Americans' choice for most admired man this year is sharply divided along party lines: 41% of Democrats name Obama, while 45% of Republicans choose Trump. Relatively few Democrats choose Trump and relatively few Republicans pick Obama, while independents' choices are divided about equally between the two men.

After Obama and Trump, no other man was mentioned by more than 2% of respondents. The remainder of the top 10 for men this year includes former President Jimmy Carter, businessman Elon Musk, philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Pope Francis, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, California Rep. Adam Schiff, the Dalai Lama, and investor Warren Buffett.

45% vs 42% didn't realize they were that close to each other, granted I don't follow the polls that much but would have guessed Obama's would have be much higher. and at some points both were in the 42% range together.

The ACA is a copy of a plan half the country approved of previously the most core aspect of which designed by the heritage foundation and it now polls very high. This is coming from someone who hated we got that instead of single payer, you may want to find another narrative.

It’s not my narrative; it’s what they say... the ACA was, and still is a divisive issue.

Saying things like “elections have consequences” and “people clinging to God and Guns” was not helpful either.

Maybe listen to people you disagree with, instead of outright ignoring them or going to personal attacks. You are still free to disagree with what they say...

The ACA is the reason democrats won both red and blue districts in 2018 to the point where even republicans were swearing they would preserve most of it. None of these on time comments come even close to what Trump tweets within a week to compare Obama to Trump requires vacating all sense of logic.

If this poll was conducted when the ACA passed I would agree but perception of most of what the law does has changed greatly. Also where did I personally attack you?

You do not get to decide what is good for everyone. As Obama pointed out, elections have consequences, and that half the nation disliked the ACA and it’s currently being ripped apart, piece by piece, should be a lesson for us all.

Yes and the consequences of ripping apart has been the greatest electoral victory since Nixon even with voter suppression and gerrymandering that took decades.

As for the ACA the popular part of it is Pre-existing conditions... that’s about all... that the lower courts are still slowly dismantling it, piece by piece should be evidence enough.

Because race is the only reason currently as for the courts they have become like everything else political as Trump has flooded them with incompetent buffoons who will rule in his favor. A centrist take would have been that this poll is a reflection of tribalism as even Trump is polling below his base support so it may just be tit for tat instead of an accurate representation of what people think.

Race is a reason for some, as it always will be for some people. But it’s not only about race... as people that voted for him twice also in the end voted for Trump.

But this isn't about voting it's about who you admire since both are polling far below their approval levels.
