And Putin's goal is to prevent it. Of which current events are part.
Is that why he has been in power for two decades and basically made Russia into one party state? What an interesting way to ensure that... Nevermind all the power invested into himself, a single person, and thus not having a worthy successor when you are almost 70 and you could, realistically, just die, even with the best healthcare? I guess he has a genius masterplan xD

Some believe having a supreme leader for life is beneficial during a major world war. China and Russia are both moving to that model. Putin openly talks about how in his view the US will collapse into civil war. He could make direct overtures to republicans to the US and accuse the democrats of war crimes if there is an incident or unrest. But this move by Putin seems in line with what were seeing.

Space platforms as in Starcraft. Just a totally fantastic tileset & theme that I'd be very keen to explore. They could do some wild things.

Anyone who talks that the US will collapse into civil war is a retard. Putin must be retarded than or pandering to retards.

I'm gonna go with pandering on this one.

Where did i say he has genius masterplan? Nope, he is only doing right thing when backed into the corner and having no other options.

He isn't great at strategy; he is good at tactical decisions though.

So why is he backed in a corner and how exactly is he in that position?
And why, exactly, are you defending him in that case (no no no, dont even try to say that you are not doing it)?

Because set of his mostly right tactical decisions led to situation where his available options are limited.

And given that he is moving now rather then in 2024, it is obvious he isn't expecting situation to improve in intervening years - or, more likely, expects it to get worse (with everyone expecting international financial crisis any moment now).

And why, exactly, are you defending him in that case (no no no, dont even try to say that you are not doing it)?
I want to understand his decisions (in a way that best matches both his rhetoric and his actions) in a way that doesn't reduce people to one-liners like "power-hungry dictators", and i like explaining things to others who don't want to bother with investigating it themselves.

Technically, the official term was imperator for the last two centuries of the dynasty - but common parlance retained czar.

He's got to be the worlds richest person unoffically. You don't amass that kind of power and money and then just walk away thinking your safe. He knows that to protect himself he has to stay in power. Just like our bad orange man. As soon as he's out of power the various states legal systems will be tearing his ass apart. NY, DC, VA, FL, etc...

I'm pretty sure the ploy here is for Putin to retain power, unlike Trump who will lose it eventually. And unlike the US, Russia doesn't have an appreciable opposition to the corrupt person in power chomping at the bit to tear him down, nor is Trump couched in the significant financial operations of the United States, unlike Putin with the Oligarchs.

A shame so many Russians (at least most of the ones on these boards) seem so resigned to their fate.

Yeah that worked out fantastically for Mussolini, Hitler and the Emperor of Japan, now didn't it?

Do you have even a basic understanding of history? I mean, your crackpot conspiracy nonsense didn't give me much hope, but like... you can't honestly be this clueless, can you?

Well it wasn't so bad for 1 of them at least. Yeah Hirihito lost face initially but he stayed in power at least ceremonally until 1989 and saw the rise of Japan to the 2nd largest economy in the world at the time of his son taking over.

That he didn't personally get strung up in the street doesn't mean his country didn't get reduced to rubble (not to mention the coup against the Emperor that was planned by Japanese military leaders in an attempt to prevent Japan's surrender after the second atom bomb dropped.) Japan saw a major, US-lead overhaul of many social and government aspects following their defeat.

Yeah but he lived a long life afterwards. Can't say that for the other 2. Though if you watch the "History/Discovery" channels you may start to believe that Hitler lived out the rest of his life in Argentina. The proto-Trump was executed by firing squad while trying to escape then his ass strung up in Milan.

Well I mean if our resident civil warmonger wants to pitch "Countries with dictator-leaders have a 1/3 chance of said leader making it out of a hypothetical world war alive, though their country will be destroyed regardless, so that's why dictator-Putin is so appealing" then they can. Honestly it'd make as much sense as the other bullshit they're spewing.

Yeltsin attacked parliament with tanks, tried to subdue breakaway regions like Chechnya with army, and destroyed lives of millions of people with his policies. People were dying left and right from organized crime.

Lived just fine after that, didn't even had to escape Russia.

No reason to think Putin will do worse given he actually performed much better then that.
