No shortage of that around here. We had some bum rush on supermarkets couple days ago, but they restocked instantly and people chilled.

I was doing my weekly purchase from the supermarket and they had toiled paper stocked heaven high whole aisle dedicated to toilet paper and a ton of it at the entrance too.

    THIS one is exploding.
    Some countrys test, some dont.

Just keep in mind, the only thing that matters is the exponential spread and the limited beds in hospitals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._hospital_beds)

We know only that in italy many hospitals reached above maximum capacity (2 weeks ago) and they had to lower the age for people they could not treat anymore and had to leave them to die. (this was the case 2 weeks ago)

Do you really think the tested numbers of cases has anything to do with the amount of people actually infected?

Its a PANDEMIC, we cant stop it, and even slowing it down needs weeks of prep and hard personal restrictions - just to slow it down enough to keep the amount of patiens and the amount of hospital beds in check.

Exponential growth is hard to get for most people but sometimes we cant just wait for the majority to "get it", because thats to late.

It doesnt really matter how much people are tested or counted, the issue is that hospitals are getting full and people have to die untreated, just because people dont get exponential growth of this pandemic and some governments are to afraid to make hard cuts to avoid this situation as much as possible.

In some areas of italy AFAIK the triage age went under 60 years. Imagine if 60 and older people getting told to go home and die, because the intensive beds are full with younger people.

The virus is hitting good healthcare system very hard, people should really fear the next weeks, because not everyone is living in healthcare heaven western europe.

Title: In France, more than half of coronavirus patients in intensive care are under 60, suggesting it's not just the elderly at risk

Anybody in Europe that can shed some more light on this?
I saw a twitter post yesterday about a hospital in New York. They said half their patients were under 50.

hmm..We are aiming for ‘maximum control’ of coronavirus, PM tells the Dutch

The aim, he said, is to try to spread the peak infection over a longer period, ‘while we build up immunity’. This means that hospitals and intensive care units are not overburdened and they have capacity to help the people most in need, Rutte said.

The rules that the government has introduced to try to stem the virus are ‘unknown in peacetime’, the prime minister said. And in a message aimed at older people and people in bad health, Rutte said: ‘I understand you are worried.’

‘It’s our priority to make the risks for you as small as possible,’ he said.

Many people in the Netherlands will develop the virus in the coming period and the more people who are immune, the less the chance to spread it to the elderly and people with poor health.

‘It will take months to build this up and in the meantime we must protect people,’ Rutte said. ‘Our choice is to go for maximum control, to lower the infection peak and spread it out over a longer period while we build up immunity and don’t overload hospitals and intensive care departments.’

Another option, to let the disease spread quickly, will put too big a burden on the care system, Rutte said. ‘We must avoid this at all cost,’ he told his television audience. The third option, to close down the country and try to keep it out, will take months or longer, with all the consequences which that will involve.

The duration of the measures and whether we need more, depend how the virus reacts,’ Rutte said. ‘Some rules might be made more flexible. We will watch and keep a finger on the pulse in the coming months. We will take the measures necessary and let normal life go on as much as possible.’

Rutte also spoke directly about the economic consequences of the shut-down. ‘Many people are worried about their jobs. Many businesses have their backs against the wall,’ he said.

‘My message to the workers of the Netherlands is that the government will do everything it can to support you so that your business doesn’t fail and you don’t lose your job. It will be difficult but, we won’t let you down.’

This pandemic exposes how much children depend on schools for meals and "daycare". Kids are home for 2 days and parents are going insane.

Younger people are being more reckless because the internet is deeming this the "boomer virus", ignoring recommendations going to clubs, bars and crowded restaurants.

Same from Dutch head of ICU, 50/50 split between young and old in ICU's.
Older people are more likely to die despite adequate care but younger people need high end care all the same.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

In American Coronavirus News -- It seems that six counties in the San Francisco Bay Area are shutting down all but the most essential businesses and telling people to stay inside their houses for the next three weeks.

The dumbest part about our response is that since there is no leadership there is no unified action every state for itself but the virus has no problem crossing county and state lines.

They will really need to enforce that with a martial law considering this is California people might just want to gather en masse and protest against restrictions

    No idea. Sorry.

But if they end up limiting ICU treatment to the under 50's then basically they are condemning anyone over 50 who needs similar care to death. In the worst affected parts of Italy its already limited to those under 60. That age limit will surely drop as well as be applied elsewhere as the situation worsens.

So even if you are young and healthy and take risks, while you might end up OK you might be condemning your parents to death.

Well that's because we still have folks out there pushing a narrative that this is all media hype and nothing more serious than the common flu despite both WHO and CDC officials claiming otherwise.

Any action to curb the spread is met with anger at the state-wide officials who are doing it.

The only way it can cross country and state lines is when its being carried across by a human, so close them borders for humans.

There's absolutely no way to close the borders between states, let alone counties.

(Also, he said county, not country.)
