Well it won't be pretty this year, but overall we will get over it and economy will be fine in the long run. It's 2008 all over again - stronger economies will recover.

I hope you are right on that. I am hoping more on the we find a viable treatment in the next month or so and we can go back semi normal business by end of May/June.

Hate to break it to you but a major depression is pretty much guaranteed. It doesn't need to take a year.

The stockmarket crash alone will set it off, not even counting the physical economy grinding to a halt.
Look at China, with their heavy lockdown it took 3 months before they are now slowly starting things back up.

I'm not talking about the percentage. Why would I be? I'm talking about the number of cases. An exponential function of any kind inherently has an increasing (or decreasing) rate of change and a non-constant rate of change indicates acceleration (or deceleration if negative).

Dont worry, they will get fined if your country officials are good for something. Every store, bar and public stuff is shot down here and only took 3 days.

If you realy want to run anything right now and be 100% protected when doing your work you need a hazmat suit and a lot of alcohol to clean anything that any visitor touches.

If you want to be safe just a bit more, put a hand sanitiser and alcohol outside the building so people can at least wash their hands. As soon as their hands are on doors, the virus will stick on it and once new person touches the same handle and move their hand to face area, they are infected.

Finland finally declared a state of emergency today, the law will be commissioned tomorrow in the parliament - handing the power to the government to issue emergency laws. All borders will be closed, incoming travel prohibited, schools closed, all 70 year olds quarantined, everyone needs to limit their movement outside, all public gathering of more than 10 people are prohibited etc.

Finally. A week or two late.

All of NY state is shutting down in 10 minutes. I live upstate in Buffalo, and all movie theatres and gatherings of 50 or more are forbidden. Restaurants and bars are closed, though they'll be allowed to serve takeout. I imagine this applies to church services as well.

My state rocks. But we always have our shit together. It's why the American Revolution got started here. You're all welcome.
Good ole Massachusetts! As someone with many illnesses making me immunocompromised, I am so okay with these "excessive" measures.

Granted this ain't my first rodeo, even though H1N1 ended up being mild I still got ready for a shelter in place. Got enough food/medicine to last me many months. It sounds crazy, but it's something I have to do.

I'm a highschool math teacher and my school is willing to give me paid leave for the rest of the school year if it's still spreading after schools open again on April 7th. Granted if it's still spreading I'm sure they'll remain closed. Sometimes it pays to be a sickly gazelle.

I feel horrible for retail/restaurant employees. It's like your only two options are to increase the likelyhood of getting sick or be unemployed and impoverished.

This is probably due to become a seasonal thing, forever. The first few years will be bad, until every non-newborn has had this at least once and we can develop a vaccine. But it's very likely to fade into the background of the general flu season, like the four other coronaviruses that commonly make their way around the human population during that time.

Go talk to someone who has one, things aren't that black and white. Case books are full of cases that were "impossible".

You might not be from the US, but in the US it is relatively easy to get a case into court. Winning is, however, not as easy.

Why bring a lawsuit if you aren't fairly sure you will win? Because you might win, and you may be able to get paid to go away. That's part of what a lawyer has to learn how to do, find a way to make a colorable case -- one that will at least get the client's foot in the door.
With COVID-19 making its impact on our lives, I have decided that I shall hang in there for my remaining days, skip some meals, try to get children to experiment with making henna patterns on their skin, and plant some trees. You know -- live, fast, dye young, and leave a pretty copse. I feel like I may not have that quite right.

Australian numbers are still fairly low compared to many places - only 376, but there is a very worrying trend going on.

A week go it was 97. The numbers are increasing from 20-25% a day. It is rapidly getting out of hand. Worse, of those 376, there have been only 23 recovered cases so far - only 0.6%. So the available medical facilities are going to be filled up rapidly.

I don't think it will be long before we go into complete lockdown too. They are talking 15 million infected and 150,000 deaths here.

As of this afternoon we are at 136 confirmed cases in Louisiana. All bars, casinos, and movie theaters are closing tonight at midnight. Restaurants will have to close their dining rooms, but will still be allowed to do take out, delivery and drive-thru. Capital One and Chase have both gone to Drive-Thru only access in my area, closing their lobbies to customers. My employer is still hanging on to keeping our lobby open, but this is going to bite us in the ass so badly. We had at least eight visibly sick individuals in our lobby today. One woman admitted she had full on fucking pneumonia, she could barely stand and was visibly sweating and coughing everywhere. I wanted to strangle her with my bare hands.

I was also told by one member that we needed to "pray away" the disease. That there was no point to quarantine or washing hands or any of that because "if God wants you to get the Coronavirus, you're gonna get the Coronavirus."

Please save me from these people. Ugh.

    That's 6% not .6%, recovery is a bit longer than a week, it's like 2 or more.
