My workplace went from making people declare where they've been over the last two week to only allowing essentials on site.

The problem is that the leadership here seems to think "Dutch people follow the rules" (and even went so far as to say as much with regards to why they aren't following the Italy model). This is utter bullshit, as anyone who's spent more than 5 minutes here could tell you. One day after telling people to stay at home whenever possible, socially isolate, keep contact to a minimum and I walk out my door to work (unfortunately my work is considered "essential") and see more people crowded together outside a CLOSED bar than there ever were when it was open. Apparently they organized their own little BYOB and decided to constipate the sidewalk with drunken--possibly diseased--ignorance.
They do not have the means to control this the way they think they do, and that's going to cost more in the long run than quarantines.

Sweden only has a bit over 1000 cases, but they don't test anyone besides those who are in the risk zone (or come from Italy).
So people like me who most likely have it and are in self quarantine are not included in that number.
I can only imagine how much higher the number of infected people it is in Sweden.
Also, I understand why elderly people die.
I'm 35 years old, got good condition, no previous health issues, never smoked, don't drink alcohol, and my lungs are working at about 60%-75%.
I suspect Texas's cases will jump soon as more testing centers opens. Seems the leaders here are anticipating that by pre-emtively closing all bars, restricting restaunts to drive thru / take out only, closing movie theaters / gyms, etc...
Porb means I should go get pet food ASAP before even the pet stores close.
I'm terrified of the virus.
I had a seriously life threatening pneumonia last year which lead to two lung surgeries and my lungs are currently operating at roughly 50% capacity of what they used to be/should be. Hence I might die if the virus hits me hard....
I also have some serious issues with my digestion system, going to the hospital next time on wednesday to have another magnetic scan on my intestines. Been shitting blood every day for three months already....
I've had the doctors plug a camera inside me from every possible hole already and almost every possible scan done yet they still don't know what's wrong with me.
Yeah, you are correct.
The problem is that we are seeing far more cases a day now occurring than the total number of recovered people. The system will be overloaded here soon.
Also, a local manufacturer of hand sanitiser has announced that it has halted production until at least easter due to international chemical shortages.
Not a bad idea, even if stores want to stay open there might be supply chain issues. Also, while I wish you good luck and good health, make sure you have a current backup plan to take care of your pets if you do get stuck unable to get home.Originally Posted by Crissi
With COVID-19 making its impact on our lives, I have decided that I shall hang in there for my remaining days, skip some meals, try to get children to experiment with making henna patterns on their skin, and plant some trees. You know -- live, fast, dye young, and leave a pretty copse. I feel like I may not have that quite right.
tbh they really should classify those stores as essentials too, cause pets need food too. and while grocery stores have cat and dog food, i dont think they have rabbit / fish / lizard food.
but thank god for the internet. Makes dealing with all this easier, as long as the warehouses dont shut down too.

Apparently 83 of the the infections are in Middlesex County, where I live.
If its like any other virus you don't get it again since your bodies immune response kills it. You get colds occasionally since its a different "cold" virus but with viruses like measles etc you never see a reoccurance, not sure why this one would be different.
On another topic, Trumps tweet about Covevefe now makes more sense, NostraTrumpus was speaking in tongues about the virus.
well I am glad we have someone more qualified than those virologists and epidemologists writing about this here. /s
you might be right (and it would be very good if you are). I don't see evidence that your viewpoint is right at this point - nor can such evidence exist conclusively afaik. qualified people have said they see no reason why this cannot become endemic.
would you have said the same thing in spring of 1918? why or why not? (would you have been right about drinks in spring 1919?)

fair to ask how long on average the virus stays in the body. this 'reinfection' report has come from multiple countries now, but afaik not on someone who was sequenced on their first infection.

when mardi gras was started I was convinced they should cancel it (been tracking this virus since mid-jan and concluded we were probably in trouble by late jan/early feb). am in northshore now so I pay attention. Februrary was a surreal time for me because no one here paid the slightest heed to this topic.

what are your symptoms? is your blood oxygenation normal always?

even something promising needs considerable testing for safety. I would be VERY leery of a treatment which either had a dubious safety profile or skipped elements of it.

no precedent I can call to mind for what central bank balance sheets are about to start doing. essentially float indefinite loans to keep targeted parts of the economy out of receivership. the implications of that alone are hard to swallow.
every country in the world chilling their economies voluntarily is something horrible to behold.
