That would of had to of happened months ago at this point. The problem with COVID-19 is that it is transmittable without symptoms, SARS was only transmittable with symptoms which is why it was far more limited in how it could spread.

On the other hand our per capita testing is equal to SK and Singapore as the highest in the world and the positive results is among the lowest, at just 1.2%. It just isn't slowing down though. Maybe with everything going into lockdown we can get it under control like SK and Singapore have.
News in the UK was full of clips of Bondai beach being full etc etc. It's crystal clear why the cases are accelerating there if I'm honest, its because people aren't taking it seriously. Now imagine how many people those 37% of cases interacted with before they showed symptoms and accept that you are going to see a LOT more cases as a nation over the next couple of weeks.

It's the sad reality at the moment.

Idiots like Boris Johnson are going to cause an insurrection. Trying to flatten the curve is one thing. Taking away people's basic human rights is fuel for a revolution.

Welp, Trump finally did it: His misinformation got someone killed.

Specifically, a husband and wife in Arizona, both in their 60s, took chloroquine phosphate to protect themselves from COVID-19, and the husband died from poisoning while his wife was in intensive care but expected to survive. Adding to the shit show is that what they took is not the anti-malarial Trump has been lying about; what they took is an additive for aquariums to treat fish for parasites. The name was close enough that they thought it was what Trump was lying about.

We are dead ass into invisible hand demands a sacrifice territory

in less than a day and a half the entire right wing media empire all of a sudden went from supporting the "isolation" strat to being against it and making "sacrifices" because "the cure is worse than the virus....."

all 3 AM station right wing propaganda host and foxnews host were all talking about how the economy basically should come before keeping people alive.

they are all back to saying this is no worse than the flu each year. How we didn't shit it all down during Obama because this is an election year and its Trump all of a sudden its different.

really makes me sad that we are part of the same human race and that these stations continue to carry them, but the owners are also crazy right wing as well

Sorry what? If you think these measures are taking away your basic human rights you should go and live in China or perhaps North Korea.

The government has a huge stick to wield and hasn't even begun to do so yet. If this is hurting your feelies then you better harden the fuck up, and fast.

Most people, that understand concepts like "exponential growth" know that these measures are necessary or we're going to have a repeat of the Spanish flu on our hands. So go start your revolution, most people will just think "fucking idiot".

This means - the crisis needs to be managed in a responsible way. Which means that no, you don't want to wait until corpses start piling sky high (as seems to be the plan in US now), but on the other hand you also can't destroy peoples' livelihoods en-masse to save half a dozen patients.

For many countries it's already too late, but some countries do still have the luxury to balance between the needs of healthcare and the needs of the economy. What the aim should be is to pass this crisis with reasonable minimal causalities without completely destroying economy.

    .
Guess you did not get the memo about it being a few more than half a dozen and based on infection rates and death rates it would be half of a million easy if restrictions were cancled or even eased.

and on top of that, you could basically kiss the healthcare system goodbye in most major cities which will make it even worse than a bad flu year since not a single state came close to an crisis in their hospital systems.
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

At this rate, the US is going to have the most recorded cases by the end of the week. Is it likely that we see a situation where the hospitals are completely overrun in the US as well? Im not sure how their healthcare stacks up (outside of being absurdly expensive) compared to somewhere like Italy.

Right now Italy has around 50k active cases and the US has around 45k, according to the MSN virus counter. So yeah there is a good chance we'll move into the lead by the end of the week. Spain is in 3rd place with 29k, and Germany 4th with 28k, so it is not likely either of those two countries will over take the US.

We will definitely be in the top two for quite a while.

Trump's not lying, sadly. He took something that has hopeful prospects, blew them out of proportion (talking about it like it was a silver bullet) and the rubes bought it before more info was available.
And said rubes used a fucking fish tank aditive.

You know the worst thing? that if hydroxychloroquine proves to be useful in reducing ICU patients even by 25% (and that has a decent chance to happen), that will be massive, and the orange cancer will take all the credit for that. Even if everyone else was responsible for it.

i hope that Novartis/Bayer/Pfizer et al dont jack up the prices of a 80 year old drug and for once do the right thing and donate 100+ millions of doses if this proves to be effective (and that has a decent chance of happening).

They aren't going to do that, because if they try to do that they will have military personnel storming inside their headquarters. In normal situations they could do that, but not in a global emergency like this.

Cuba has locked all tourists (~30k) to their hotel rooms. The tourists are not allowed to leave the rooms for anything else than the transport to the airport to be shipped out of the country.

Human life has always had a price. And it's never been equal between people.

well I suppose I have a little bit of good news in all this. my hubby's job has been classified at necessary so even if shit get locked down he'll still have a job. he works at a company that boxes water for hotels but obviously that water can go wherever it's needed to go

now hopefully my dr. appointment in a few days doesn't get cancelled as I've been waiting probably 6 months for it
We cannot go back. That's why it's hard to choose. You have to make the right choice. As long as you don't choose, everything remains possible.

What's happening in the Netherlands can hardly be called a lockdown. People are locked OUT of bars and restaurants, but they're still crowding places like parks and beaches like fucking morons. It's going to get SO bad here this week and next.

Just got home from night shift and saw some "highlights" from Trump's daily propaganda dissemination and quite frankly if State and local leadership don't just fucking ignore him and act on their own then the entirety of the US is going to be a lot worse off than Italy. Fuck him, fuck his GOP and fuck you if you still support him.

That's not misinformation, that's an idiot self medicating with aquarium cleaner because it contains the same thing as a prescription drug that's showing off-label benefits for people with Covid-19.

And they did it because Trump touted the anti-malarial as a cure when it hasn't even been thoroughly tested for such a purpose and the name was close enough that they thought it was the same thing. Simply put, if Trump kept his damn mouth shut and stayed off Twitter, someone wouldn't have died.
