if i'm not mistaken the model with half a million deaths was the result of a "no lockdown" scenario so it was bound to change as british politicians got a much needed wake up call

This. It’s almost comical watching their weird flailing in this thread.

    Italy numbers:

Cases: +5974 on 35447 tests for 16.9% positive rate.
    Deaths: +889

It was a world-is-ending projection two weeks ago of as many as 500,000 dead in the United Kingdom and as many as 2.2 million dead in the United States, offered up by Professor Neil Ferguson and his team at the Imperial College London, that fired up the media’s panic-machine. However, overlooked in the hyper-reaction was that this was an unlikely worst-case scenario, based on nothing being done to stop the virus’s spread. And Ferguson (who reportedly contracted the virus himself) subsequently cut the projected number of British deaths in half as the government there ramped up its response — and has since drastically scaled it back yet again, to less than 20,000 deaths in Britain. As the National Review correctly pointed out, “Models like this will always turn out to be wrong in some way or other, because they rely on very strong assumptions about aspects of the disease we haven’t thoroughly studied yet. If nothing else, the original Imperial model will be obsolete soon … ."

Let’s hope and pray that these three and the other pragmatic analysts now joining them are indeed correct about the outcome of all this, particularly because the draconian measures now in place could create another health catastrophe, if lost jobs and bankruptcies lead to poverty, hopelessness and increased suicides.

Whatever the correct projections turn out to be, tens of thousands of people are likely to die and millions more are paying an unimaginable price. Politics and partisanship should play no role in this— only truth and indisputable, real evidence.

It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

They already are though, what countries are you looking at? If you are looking at the Southern nations they were the first to get hit and acted too late, the rest learned from it and so the further north you get and the harsher and faster the measures came the quicker it took effect.

You have to take note that this is not a disease that hits you instantly, it can take up to three weeks to fully hit you. During that time you can get better for a brief period and become even sicker afterwards. Hospitalization for that reason is kept at two weeks give or take.

Belgium it is slowing down, still increasing but not as fast as elsewhere, we were quick to act.

Well the whole "omg omg we're all goimg to die" attitude was based on nobody doing anything. Now that governments are responding no one seems to want to be hopeful...they seem more desirous of being locked in a depressed state with their lockdown which boggles the mind.

I believe he is an american and he is finding articles to cling onto that none of this will get as bad as it gets. He was one of those people in this thread that did not find it worth taking serious to the point lockdowns are fully worth it.

I mean if we look at France now it does as predicted take 3 weeks to fully come into full swing. So his opinion on this matter will change when his surroundings start to change, there is intentional confusion being created in the US by the White House to down play this, as the politicians are scared it might hurt their personal income and wealth.

Something we could nothing understand as this happening on European soil would lead to a very bad ending for said politicians, with the best possible outcome jail.

hundreds of people are going to die even with a full powered lockdown, I see no reason to cheer

The time to respond was three weeks ago when the US first got hit in your case, you are far too late.

Not a matter of believe or hope, that was taken away with the examples seen in Italy, Spain and now France.

Why do you think it will be different on US soil? And those are nations that hesitated far less and acted. Now you have past their time line when it comes to a chance to act and you have still only reached the point of "considering to act" on Federal level.

So again why do you think the US will be better off in this case when certain states pulling at the alarm bell?

I should be surprised at this but I'm not. Its what happens when the party of reactionaries, religious extremists, QAnon, ethnonationalists, and billionaires taking advantage of all of the former, are running things.

In fact. I challenge you to provide one legit credible news source that says anything close to "we are all going to die"

Sweden has some of, if not the most lax 'measures' for combating the virus in the world right now. They haven't closed anything, not even schools.
